This week, we celebrate the incredible Lọlá Ákínmádé Åkerström and her powerful new novel, Bitter Honey - a multigenerational story spanning four decades and three continents, from 1970s Gambia to present-day Sweden.

Lọlá is a Nigerian-born, Sweden-based storyteller, award-winning author, and photographer. She’s also the mind behind Due North, the bestselling LAGOM: The Swedish Secret of Living Well, and the critically acclaimed novels In Every Mirror She’s Black and Everything Is Not Enough.

In Bitter Honey, we meet Nancy, a young Gambian scholar who moves to Stockholm in 1978, and Tina, her daughter, who years later unearths family secrets long buried.

Their story is one of silence, resilience, longing, and ultimately, healing.

This novel is as tender as it is fierce. A lyrical call for empathy. A love letter to mothers and daughters.

Today we’re celebrating Adrienne Seet, a multi-hyphenate creative whose work spans continents, mediums, and missions.

💡 On founding SNFF (snff.no)
Adrienne launched the Singapore Nordic Film Festival to build a cultural bridge between Southeast Asia and the Nordic countries. With a vision rooted in diversity, empathy, and connection, SNFF brings together filmmakers and audiences to explore stories that challenge mainstream narratives.

With the powerhouse support of teammates Kathleen Ang and Erlynee Reinton, SNFF is becoming a vibrant platform for screenings, youth workshops, and industry conversations.

🖌️ () Pixyboots.com: Art with Heart
Adrienne also runs Pixyboots (https://www.pixyboots.com/), a personal art brand that explores themes like identity, gender politics, and generational healing. Through her work, ranging from paintings to merchandise, she aims to spark meaningful conversations and support other independent artists.

She’s currently working on a long-term initiative, Art for Impact, which will use art sales to fund mobile libraries in underserved regions.
And in three years? She envisions art retreats focused on healing the inner child through creativity, meditation, and community.

🔥 What Drives Adrienne?
The power of storytelling to build empathy. The joy of watching art connect people. The desire to push boundaries and create spaces for underrepresented voices. That’s what fuels Adrienne every single day.

📣 How You Can Support
✅ Attend SNFF screenings and workshops
✅ Share the festival and Pixyboots with your networks
✅ Buy art at Pixyboots.com to support future initiatives
✅ Donate or sponsor mobile libraries via Art for Impact

Adrienne’s work is bold, purpose-driven, and deeply human. Whether through festivals or fine art, she’s creating ripples of change across cultures.
