चले वाते चलं चित्तं निश्चले निश्चलं भवेत् । योगी स्थाणुत्वमाप्नोति ततो वायुं निरोधयेत् ॥

When the breath is unsteady, the mind is unsteady. When the breath becomes steady, the mind becomes steady. Therefore, the yogi should control the breath.

जब प्राणवायु (श्वास) चञ्चल हुन्छ, तब मन पनि चञ्चल हुन्छ। जब प्राणवायु स्थिर हुन्छ, तब मन पनि स्थिर हुन्छ। मनको स्थिरता प्राप्त गरी अचल अवस्थासम्म पुग्न योगीले प्राणवायु (श्वास) लाई नियन्त्रण गर्नुपर्छ।

भावार्थ:
श्वास र मनबीच गहिरो सम्बन्ध छ। श्वासको गति शान्त र नियमित हुँदा मन पनि शान्त, एकाग्र र स्थिर बन्छ। त्यसैले योगशास्त्रले प्राणायामलाई मन नियन्त्रण र ध्यानको आधार मानेको छ। यो श्लोकले श्वासको नियन्त्रणद्वारा चित्तको स्थिरता प्राप्त गर्न सकिने महत्त्वपूर्ण योगसिद्धान्तलाई स्पष्ट गर्दछ।
