A 13 year old patient presented with sleep disordered breathing exhibiting symptoms such as snoring, bruxism, crowding in upper and lower arches, a high arched palate, lateral tongue thrust, tongue tie & vivid dreams.

With the MSE appliance used in his initial phase of treatment, a palatal expansion of 6.5mm was successfully achieved, and an increase of approximately 3mm in the width of the sinus cavity was observed.

This assisted the patient in breathing comfortably, sleeping soundly, and focusing effectively.

It was successfully completed at

Patient testimonials serve as a significant motivator for continuous learning, enabling us to provide the most effective care.

The patient initially presented with a range of symptoms, including jaw pain, difficulty consuming hard foods, impaired concentration, headaches, motion sickness, bruxism, and disrupted sleep patterns.

Following a 10-11 month course of Neuromuscular Orthotic therapy, the patient is now pain-free, able to chew firm foods such as apples, and has experienced a resolution of their other symptoms.

We are pleased to have been of assistance and appreciate the positive feedback received.

What is a MSE?

A Maxillary Skeletal Expander (MSE) is a non-surgical orthodontic appliance that widens the upper jaw (maxilla) in teenagers and adults by targeting the bony palate rather than just the teeth.
Using four mini-screws (temporary anchorage devices) anchored directly into the roof of the mouth, it widens the mid-palatal suture to fix narrow arches, crowding, and crossbites, often improving nasal breathing and reducing snoring.

What Does the Shape of Your Palate Mean?

Did you know the shape of your palate can impact more than just your smile?

A high-arched, narrow palate might be a sign of developmental issues that can affect:

🛌 Sleep: Narrow airways can contribute to snoring and sleep apnea.

💨 Breathing: A smaller palate leaves less room for proper nasal breathing.

🗣️ Speech: It can influence the way sounds are formed.

🦷 Oral health: Crowded teeth and jaw alignment are often linked.

How we use our tongue and the foods we eat during childhood play a huge role in shaping the palate.

👅 When the tongue rests properly at the roof of the mouth, it helps widen and maintain the palate and promote nasal breathing!

🥕 Eating whole, tough foods encourages proper chewing, which aids in jaw and palate development.

Postural imbalance on the left and balance on the right. Note how mandible position is strictly related with trunk posture. Hence, Orientation and stabilization are the two subcomponents for body balance.

E.g- If there is an injured part of the body, as in an ankle sprain, the body naturally stabilizes the injured area allowing more movement of other parts of the foot to compensate for the injured area. The same is applicable for the other body parts including TMJ as illustrated in the above picture.
