🩺 "Would you use a wrapped set with a hole in the wrap?"

This was one of the questions we posed during our recent presentations at the CSSD Study Days in Christchurch and Wellington.

It was fantastic to connect with so many passionate sterile services professionals and discuss how the ConTeg Container Testing Machine can help departments objectively verify sterilisation container integrity and support infection prevention initiatives.

🔍 Through these sessions, we explored the importance of sterile barrier integrity, current testing challenges, and how objective testing can help support greater confidence and quality assurance within CSSD workflows.

👏 Thank you to everyone who attended and contributed to the discussions. We appreciate the opportunity to share new technologies and learn more about the challenges facing CSSD teams across New Zealand.

Tungsten carbide vs standard needle holders — what’s the difference? 🔍

If you’ve ever noticed gold handles on a needle holder, that’s not just for appearance. ✨

Those gold rings indicate tungsten carbide inserts — a harder, more wear-resistant material designed for repeated needle clamping.
Why does that matter?

Tungsten carbide is significantly harder and more wear-resistant than standard stainless steel, helping the jaws maintain grip and performance through repeated needle clamping. ⚙️

In practical terms:
• Tungsten carbide needle holders are better suited to high-volume or repetitive use
• Standard stainless steel needle holders are ideal for general or lower-volume work
• Tungsten carbide instruments typically cost more upfront, but are designed for longer service life ⏳
