π€ βAs a bariatric surgeon, patients ask me these questions every single weekβ¦β
There is a lot of misinformation and fear surrounding bariatric surgery. Letβs talk honestly about some of the most common concerns patients have before surgery.
βοΈ Will I regain the weight?
A small amount of weight regain after bariatric surgery can be completely normal as your body stabilises. However, long-term success comes from maintaining healthy eating habits, structure, movement, and ongoing support.
π½οΈ Will I be hungry after surgery?
Some hunger can return over time as your body adapts. It is also important to recognise the difference between true physical hunger and βhead hungerβ triggered by stress, boredom, anxiety, or emotions.
πββοΈ Will I have loose skin or lose my hair?
Loose skin can occur after significant weight loss, and there are effective treatment options available. Temporary hair thinning can also happen 3β6 months after surgery, but this is usually reversible with proper nutrition, protein intake, and supplementation.
π Is bariatric surgery cheating?
Absolutely not. Obesity is a complex medical condition involving hormones, metabolism, psychology, and lifestyle factors. Bariatric surgery is a powerful medical tool β not the easy way out.
At Surgical Weight Solutions, our specialised multidisciplinary team supports patients with structured follow-up for up to 5 years to help you succeed long term.
