In Traditional Chinese Medicine, menopause is sometimes beautifully described as a “Second Spring” (第二春).

Rather than seeing menopause simply as a time of decline, TCM offers another perspective: it can be a transition into a new season of life.

As the reproductive chapter begins to close, the body’s energy is no longer centred around menstruation and reproduction. This new stage can become a time to nourish longevity, creativity, inner growth, and a deeper connection with yourself.

Menopause itself is a natural transition, not an illness. But as the body goes through this significant change, its energy also needs to shift, adapt and find a new balance.

From a TCM perspective, symptoms such as hot flushes, disrupted sleep, mood changes, fatigue or headaches can be viewed as signs that this transition may not be flowing as smoothly as it could — signals that the body’s Yin and Yang may need support in finding a new balance.

This is where Chinese medicine, acupuncture and Yin Yang Therapy can offer support. Treatment aims to help regulate and encourage the smooth flow of energy, support Yin Yang balance, and guide the body’s resources towards where they are most needed in this new stage of life.

The intention is not to fight the natural changes of menopause, but to help the body move through this transition more smoothly and harmoniously — and embrace the beginning of its Second Spring. 🌸

The Neijing Tu (Map of the Inner Landscape)

When you walk into my treatment room, you'll probably notice this painting.

At first glance, it looks like a landscape.

Mountains. Rivers. Trees.

But look a little closer, and you'll realise it's actually a map of the human body.

Created over a thousand years ago, the Neijing Tu reflects how ancient Chinese physicians viewed the body as a living landscape.

When the rivers flow, the forest thrives.
When the pathways become blocked, the whole landscape begins to struggle.

Perhaps healing isn't about fighting the body.

Perhaps it's about helping life flow again.

I've spent years studying this image, and I know I'll spend many more.
The deeper I explore it, the more it reveals. It feels like a map that could take a lifetime to truly understand.

🍃 Healing begins with slowing down.

Life can be busy, and we often forget to pause.

In my clinic, healing isn't just about acupuncture. It's about helping your body find balance again - what traditional Chinese medicine calls balancing yin and yang. Sometimes that begins with simply taking a moment to breathe and slow down.

I'm thinking about introducing a small Tea Circle on Monday or Tuesday mornings - a peaceful hour to enjoy traditional Chinese tea, slow down, and reconnect with yourself.

Would this be something you'd enjoy? I'd love to hear your thoughts.

Sometimes the best medicine is simply giving yourself permission to pause.

In my treatment, I often check your tongue, pulses, body temperature, and abdominal area. People often ask me why. Let’s start with the abdomen. Our body has main energetic channels, and most of them run through the abdomen—just like highways in a city. If you imagine State Highway 1 in Auckland, a blockage there would cause a traffic jam affecting the whole city. It’s similar in the body—when these major channels are blocked, your whole system is affected, and conditions may not heal properly. So, I first ensure these main “highways” are working well—that’s the starting point of your treatment!

In fact, for some people, once we clear the blockages in the abdominal area, they already feel about half of their symptoms improve. That’s because when those “highways” are flowing, your body’s natural healing process can work much better. So, focusing on these core areas is often a key first step to helping you feel balanced and well.

Why I Combine Acupuncture with Yin Yang Therapy 🌿

Many people know acupuncture as a treatment for the physical body — helping with pain, circulation, muscles, nerves, and supporting the body’s natural healing process.

But in Traditional Chinese Medicine, we have always understood human beings as more than just a physical body.

We are made up of many different layers:
✨ Physical body
✨ Emotional body
✨ Mental body
✨ Energetic body

What we experience physically is only the final expression of something that has been building for a long time.

Before pain, tension or other symptoms appear in the physical body, there may already have been deeper imbalances within us — in our stress patterns, emotions, thoughts, and energetic system.

This is why sometimes symptoms keep returning.

Because sometimes the root is not only in the physical body.

🌿 **This is why my treatment combines two ancient approaches: Acupuncture + Yin Yang Therapy**

Acupuncture works with the body — releasing tension, improving flow and creating space for healing.

Once the body begins to settle, we move into the second stage:

Yin Yang Therapy.

Yin Yang Therapy is a very ancient healing method from Traditional Chinese Medicine, passed down through generations.

Unlike acupuncture, which works through the physical body, Yin Yang Therapy works on a deeper energetic level.

During this stage, many patients describe entering a very peaceful state — somewhere between being awake and asleep.

They often tell me:

“I wasn’t sleeping… but I wasn’t awake either.”

“It felt like I was seeing beautiful swirling colours.”

“It felt so peaceful, I could stay here forever.”

As the mind becomes quiet and the body deeply relaxes, it allows us to work beyond the surface layer.

This is why I believe combining acupuncture and Yin Yang Therapy together can create such a powerful healing experience.

Because true healing is not about fighting the body.

It is about listening to it, understanding it, and helping it remember how to return to balance. 🌿

Many people come to me for weight loss, but what they often experience goes far beyond the number on the scale.

One of the first changes many patients notice is around the waist and abdominal area — an area that can often feel difficult to change through dieting alone.

Abdominal fat is not just about appearance. It is closely connected with our overall metabolic health, energy, and wellbeing.

✨ Many patients notice:
• Less bloating & changes around the waist
• Better digestion
• Improved energy
• Feeling lighter and more balanced

My approach combines acupuncture with Yin Yang Therapy — supporting not only the physical body, but also the deeper patterns behind cravings and eating habits.

Yin Yang Therapy focuses on helping reduce cravings for sugar, processed foods, soft drinks, and alcohol, while supporting a healthier relationship with food.

One patient told me after a few weeks:

“I don’t know what happened… I look at alcohol now and I don’t even want it anymore.”

This is why I believe sustainable change is not just about restriction or willpower.

It’s about helping the body find balance again, so healthier choices become more natural. ✨

A small corner of calm 🍃

One of my favourite spaces in the clinic is this tea corner in the waiting area.

Traditional Chinese Medicine is not only about treating symptoms, it is also about creating balance. Sometimes healing begins with something as simple as slowing down, taking a moment to breathe, and enjoying a cup of tea.

I hope this little space offers a sense of peace and comfort before your treatment begins.

Hi everyone 👋

I thought I'd introduce myself to the community.

I'm Yunfan, a registered acupuncturist and founder of Yunfan Chinese Acupuncture in Milldale.

Over 15 years ago, I suffered from a mystery illness that caused chronic pain and bowel inflammation. At the time, surgery was presented as my only remaining option. Although I was very skeptical, I decided to try acupuncture after a friend's recommendation.

The results were life-changing. Within a few treatments, my symptoms had resolved, and that experience inspired me to dedicate my life to studying Traditional Chinese Medicine.

Since then, I have completed a Health Sciences degree in Traditional Chinese Medicine, undertaken clinical training at a Traditional Chinese Medicine Hospital in China, and continue advanced study under experienced practitioners from both Australia and China.

I previously owned a busy clinic in Mangawhai and have recently relocated to Auckland, where I have opened my new clinic in Milldale.

I am passionate about helping people with pain, injuries, stress, digestive issues, women's health concerns, and overall wellbeing through acupuncture and Traditional Chinese Medicine.

If you'd like to learn more about my story, services, or whether acupuncture may be suitable for you, feel free to visit my website:

Over fifteen years ago, I was knocked for six by a mystery illness that caused chronic pain and bowel inflammation. At my lowest point, surgery was presented as my only remaining option. Skeptical but desperate, I took a friend’s advice and tried acupuncture.

To my surprise, I experienced immediate relief. After just two treatments, the pain was gone, and by the fifth session, I no longer needed treatment. The experience changed my life and opened my eyes to the incredible healing potential of Traditional Chinese Medicine.

The practitioner who helped me was Raymond Yu, a highly respected healer in Australia. Inspired by my own recovery, I asked if he would teach me. To my delight, he accepted me as his apprentice and introduced me to his unique approach, including Yin Yang Therapy, which became a significant part of my clinical practice.

I went on to complete a Health Sciences degree in Traditional Chinese Medicine and further developed my skills through clinical training at a Traditional Chinese Medicine Hospital in China. I have also continued my studies under Dr. Guo, a fifth-generation Chinese Acupuncturist with more than 65 years of clinical experience, with whom I continue to study today.

I opened my first clinic in Mangawhai, where I built a busy and deeply rewarding practice. Earlier this year, I relocated to Auckland and established my new clinic in Milldale.

My own healing journey sparked a lifelong passion for helping others. Through acupuncture, Yin Yang Therapy, and a deep understanding of the body's energy systems, my goal is to help people restore balance, improve their health, and live life with greater vitality.

This is the heart of Yunfan Chinese Acupuncture.

🌿 About Yin Yang Healing & Acupuncture
Yin Yang Healing is an ancient Chinese energy healing practice that supports the balance of yin and yang, helping the body regulate itself and naturally heal. During the session, I may gently place my hands on areas where energy flow feels blocked or stagnant, allowing your body to receive exactly what it needs. (Please don’t be alarmed if I place my hands on you. And equally, please don’t be disappointed if I don’t.)

If you choose acupuncture, fine needles will be carefully applied to points selected according to your current physical and energetic state. Acupuncture helps activate your body’s self-healing mechanisms and supports overall wellbeing. Both options, energy healing alone or combined with acupuncture, are equally welcome and effective.
