🌟 Each month, loads of unused medications are returned to NZ pharmacies to be destroyed. 😢

🌟 It’s awesome people are disposing them properly instead of harming the environment, however it really makes you think about how much medication is overstocked in our cupboards and wasted.

🌟 These returns add up to thousands of dollars worth of wasted medication every month. Unfortunately, once medicines are returned to the pharmacy, we legally can’t reuse them because we can’t guarantee how they’ve been stored. So we either discard it or donate it to a charity called Medical Aid Abroad.

🌟 We understand circumstances change, people pass away, treatments change, or you want to keep meds on hand for future treatment.

But for most of us that can, it’s worth thinking twice:

⭐️ Decide - what medications do we need? How much do we need?
⭐️ Dispose — check your cupboards regularly and return anything no longer needed to your nearest pharmacy. It’s safer for our environment and safer for people around us.
⭐️ Donate — Medical Aid Abroad can accept some unopened medications with more
than 6 months before expiry to help other countries in need. Get in touch with them 🙌🏽
⭐️ Discuss: Tell your doctor and pharmacist what you already have at home and how long will it last for.

Pharmacies can keep your prescriptions on hold for up to 3 months. 🙌🏽
