Fig pruning.
We pruned this big fig three that was growing wild for a bit.
I usually follow this steps:
-Cutting new growths around the bottom of the tree, Usually whatever is growing new under my chest. Ideally I don't want any divisions before y chest hight as make more difficult to walk around the tree for future pruning and picking the fruit, plus takes a lot of energy for the tree to create fruits if there are many big branches.
-Cutting very obvious "chupones". Branches very straight that are reaching towards the sky. (We want the fig to spread horizontally, for easy picking and for shortening the distance between fruits and roots.
-Cutting branches that lean towards the center of its cup. If the middle is not open to sunlight, we will have less fruit , as some branches will give shadow to others, and the risk to develope illnesses and fungui will be higher.
-Cutting branches that are dead or very old. A dead branch is a opened window for fungui to enter the tree, exactly what we don't want.
- Cutting branches that are crossing or very close to each others.

If after all of this I ve cut less than 30 percent of the tree, I check If I can reduce the quantity of wood in the tree, maybe cuttign lower an old branch with long distance between the fruit and the roots.

In the case of this fig, I will cut much lower the big branch close to the middle, as is far to high. But in this visit I already cut a lot, and I didn't want shock the tree to much.
It is also good to consider to paint any big cuts done if we expect rain in the next week. As figs are sensitive to a larvae that will damage the tree.

If you have any fruit trees that need pruning, dont hesitate to contact through PM for quote.
Love your fruit trees, they will say thank you with big and sweet fruits!

Moth plant mission!
Years ago I had a mother plan in my garden, in Madrid. Took years to grow a couple of meters, and I was mesmerized by its flowers and strange pods.
But here...enemy number one! With its hundreds of flying seeds spreading in the air and with this beautiful weather that makes everything grows like compassion in our hearts.
Anyways, we smashed it!

The flowers of my garden. :)

It is important to plant a good variety of flowers, as they attract different kinds of pollinators. That means a more balanced ecosystem , less plagues, and of course a delight for our eyes!
