Today is World Radiotherapy Awareness Day 🌍

Together, we are raising awareness of the vital role radiotherapy plays in cancer treatment and the difference it makes to millions of patients worldwide.

This year's message, One Voice for Radiotherapy, highlights the power of our global community to advocate for greater understanding, access and investment in radiotherapy services.

Join us in recognising the professionals, patients, advocates and organisations working to advance cancer care around the world 💙

A huge thank you to our team members who collected for Daffodil Day on Friday, and to everyone who showed their support by donating, joining our colouring competition and wearing a daffodil 💛

We are proud to support our partners at Cancer Society Auckland and Northland, who do an amazing job providing support to Kiwis affected by cancer!

One of the most important services they provide is Domain Lodge, an accommodation facility in Auckland that provides a home away from home for patients who have travelled to attend appointments or receive treatment. This invaluable support helps ease the burden on families during what can often be a challenging and emotional journey. In many cases, it enables patients from patients outside of Auckland to access treatment services at ARO

If you missed the chance to donate this Daffodil Day, you can still do so here: https://www.cancer.org.nz/you-can-be-there-for-someone-every-month/

This month we celebrated ONE YEAR of ARO on the North Shore 🎉

A year ago, we welcomed our first patients through the doors of a facility. Since then, ARO North Shore has helped provide timely, accessible radiation therapy closer to home, supporting patients and their whānau through some of life's most challenging moments.

This milestone reflects the dedication and teamwork across ARO, from our reception and scheduling teams to nurses, radiation therapists, oncologists, physicists. Thank you for the care, expertise, and compassion you bring every day. Here's to an incredible first year and the many lives touched along the way 💙

What a fantastic way to celebrate the halfway point of the year!

In August, the ARO team came together for our Mid-Winter Celebration to recognise and thank everyone for their incredible mahi over the first six months of 2026.

It's been a busy and rewarding year so far. Together we've continued to advance our treatment services, delivered exceptional care to more people in need, and made significant improvements to many of our systems. None of this would be possible without the dedication, expertise and teamwork of every member of ARO.

We also had the pleasure of announcing our Quarterly ARO Values Award recipients.
A huge congratulations and thank you to:
🏆 Katie Birkett
🏆 Yasmin Lala
🏆 Our CT Scheduling Team – Joshi Walthati, Mel Ward, Nicole Mangakahia and Mia Kim

Your commitment to our values and the difference you make for our patients, colleagues and organisation every day is hugely appreciated.

Thank you to our entire team for everything you've achieved so far this year. We have a lot to be proud of, and we're excited about what the second half of 2026 will bring.

On Sunday 28 June, the Auckland Radiation Oncology team was proud to once again support Mercy Hospice's 19th Annual Fundraiser - 10: A Celebration of Tastes.

We have been privileged to attend this special event for many years and are always grateful for the opportunity to support the incredible work of Mercy Hospice.
Every day, Mercy Hospice provides specialist palliative care for people living with life-limiting illnesses, delivering expert clinical care with compassion, dignity and respect. Through its Inpatient Unit and community services, the team also offers invaluable education and support to families, friends and carers navigating the challenges of serious illness.

For many people with cancer, Mercy Hospice is an important part of their care journey. We see firsthand the difference their team makes through the exceptional care, comfort and support they provide to patients and their loved ones, and we deeply value the important role they play in our community.

Thank you to everyone involved in making this year's event such a success. We are honoured to support an organisation that makes such a meaningful difference in the lives of so many and look forward to continuing our partnership with Mercy Hospice.

We’re proud to celebrate the incredible work of Ronnie Leung and our Auckland Radiation Oncology team, recently showcased at the International Stereotactic Radiosurgery Society (ISRS) Conference in Sydney 🌏

Ronnie’s latest research demonstrates how advanced treatment planning techniques can further refine CyberKnife liver radiotherapy - improving precision by accounting for tumour movement during breathing, while better protecting healthy liver tissue. A meaningful step forward for both accuracy and patient safety.

It’s an honour to see our team contributing to global conversations shaping the future of stereotactic radiotherapy.

Reflecting on the conference, Ronnie shared some personal reflections:
ISRS 2026 was an inspiring experience, bringing together leaders across the radiosurgery field to share advances in SRS/SRT and strengthen multidisciplinary collaboration to better advocate for patients who may benefit from SRS/SRT. The standout message was clear: patients must remain at the isocenter (at the true centre) of everything we do, and their voices should guide care from start to finish.”

Congratulations Ronnie and team - we’re incredibly proud 👏
