It's really tough when we witness our children experiencing anxiety. Really tough.😪

Anxiety can be a physically and mentally awful feeling. I know because I’ve been there.

Anxiety isn't "just worry" or "overthinking". It is something that happens when some deep glands in the brain become over active and react to everything in an "over" way. It takes a LOT of deliberate mental control and a capacity to tolerate this "over-ness" (instead of giving in to it which is waaaay easier!) to reverse the brain's reactions.

Sometimes you come across a gem, and this is one : Karen Young - Hey Sigmund work is superb, and useful. 😍

If your kid (or grandkid) experiences anxiety this is really worth a look ❤️

Flexible, rested feet are happy feet!

What does a Reflexologist do on a late autumn weekend? Socks on and feet up by the fireside!

Why?? Because our feet work so hard for us they deserve to be put up!

For a normal human standing on two feet, the average pressure ranges from 0.5 to 0.8kg per square centimeter!

But pressure changes significantly depending on whether you are standing on both feet, standing on one foot, walking, or wearing certain types of footwear...

When you walk the pressure increases momentarily when pushing off a single foot, occasionally spiking up to 1.0 to 2.0kg per square centimeter on the forefoot. 🦶🦶🦶

If you wear stiletto heels you can exert up to 13kg per square centimeter of pressure, which is roughly 15 timedls more than an average footprint, simply because the weight is concentrated on a pinpoint area. 👠👠👠

Surprisingly, despite weighing thousands of kilograms, an elephant's large footprint means the pressure exerted on the ground is roughly 0.6kg per square centimeter 🐘🐘🐘

Have you put your feet up this weekend???

I don't know whether to feel sad or happy...

Maybe sad, because it's only just May and emails from people who have attended the Retreat for Parents of Children with Disabililites in recent years have been showing up in my inbox for the past two weeks.

They are asking "When is the next one???"

They are saying "I'm desperate".

One of the messages I received from a mother said what they all say:

"There are rarely suitable places for the carer to go, safe places where little is expected of them, that opens up the ability for them to recharge enough to keep going.

And it directly benefits the disabled person by ensuring their carer gets an adequate break and at the same time receives tools that helps them to perform at their best."

If you know people who are also desperate for this period of planned respite care for themselves, please do get in touch.

Full details will be arriving on my website and in other socials over the next few days.

HELLO MAY!

And hello to the month when we honur the women who fulfil a mothering role in our lives ❤️

Anyone who has observed a woman carrying out mothering, will have seen that over and over again she is doing things that she may never have been taught. She probably had to work them out and many, many times has been stretched to her limits to provide what her children need.

Mothering (to some degree) is driven by biological responses, but much of it is 'figure it out as you go along'!

This often makes it exhausting, stressful and confusing.

But, they do it anyway. ❤️

✅️ So here's a pro tip: mothers who are looked after will have better inner resources to carry out the mothering role.

What does "looking after" look like?

🫶Time to rest and sleep
🫶Removing some.of her mental load ie planning, organisting and 🫶decision making
🫶Taking on some of her tasks
🫶Arranging for her to have some meaningful connection with supportive people
🫶Creating time for her to be creative
🫶Facilitate for her to have time in nature
🫶Facilitating other experiences that calm her nervous system

Could you offer some meaningful support this Mother's Day to the mother in your life?

A T H O U S A N D. H O U S E S

There's a team of people in my neighborhood who do an amazing, hard, mind-blowing job making homes for people who have had to give up everything they owned so as to be safe.

So far: 1022 houses

These people are Woven Earth and I am so proud to be the provider of wellness care to their incredible volunteers so that they can keep doing this vital work they do.

It's part of our ethos: to care for the carers. Woven Earth are carers. Caring via hard physical and mental work. More especially, caring via incredibly hard emotional work.

To tell the Woven Earth story https://www.facebook.com/share/1BGJzxSwv8/ went behind the scenes...

Yes I know. You are all sick of me harping on in the clinic about yoga 🤣

I won't stop. 😁

Because our bodies need to move the way that yoga makes them move. Moving bodies the yoga way gives balance to all the other movements we do.
We need yoga just as much as we need weight training and cardio.
Yoga reverses and prevents the stiffness that limits our freedom of movement and, lets face it, our freedom of living.

And yes I know, being the newbie in a yoga class is off-putting, and this is why I LOVE Yoga With Adriene

It's yoga for common sense PURPOSE (like yoga for headaches, yoga for runners, yoga for when youre sick, yoga for sore backs. Even yoga for the overstimulated nervous system ❤️).

It's yoga for people at home without any special equipment.

It's yoga in plain language.

When this new video from Adrienne popped up today I had to share it to illustrate the point!

https://www.facebook.com/share/p/16LFVmqtnT/

It is quite easy to be overstimulated these days, I am not going to sugar coat it. Overstimulation can happen when we experience too much noise, sensory overload, racing thoughts, intense emotions, or overwhelming environments. This is when our bodies tell us that our nervous system is in a heightened state. When things feel like too much, yoga teaches the body to come back to balance.

This practice is here for you when you need to be guided back to equilibrium. Together we will flow through slow, intentional movement to shift the nervous system back to a parasympathetic state, also known as “rest & digest.” Reconnect with your body, relieve tension, and find a safe place to land. I’m here for you.
