Concussions are serious brain injuries, and while many people recover within weeks, some experience long-lasting symptoms. This condition is known as Post-Concussion Syndrome (PCS) , and it can significantly impact your quality of life for months or even years after the initial injury. In this post

“Your scans are normal” doesn’t mean nothing is wrong.

Standard imaging doesn’t measure how well your brain functions — only whether there’s visible damage.

Concussion is a functional injury.

That’s why people can look fine, test fine, and still feel completely unlike themselves.

When people hear the term *Functional Neurological Rehabilitation (FNR)*, they're often not quite sure what it means.

Put simply, it's the approach that sits at the heart of everything we do at Concussion Care.

Rather than assuming every concussion is the same, we begin with a comprehensive assessment to understand which systems may be contributing to your symptoms. That helps us develop a rehabilitation programme tailored to your individual needs.

Depending on your assessment, your programme may include rehabilitation for areas such as:

• Visual function
• Balance and vestibular function
• Cervical spine function
• Brain-body integration
• Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (when appropriate)

Every person's recovery journey is different, which is why every programme is different too.

If you've been struggling with ongoing concussion symptoms and would like to understand what might be contributing to them, we'd be happy to help.

*"I honestly thought I was a hopeless case."*

Those are Jacob's words.

After living with post-concussion syndrome for four and a half years, he'd reached the point where he believed things were never going to improve.

Like many people we meet, he'd tried to push through, adapt to his symptoms and accept that this might simply be his new normal.

But recovery doesn't always follow a straight line.

Sometimes, even years after the original injury, there are still opportunities to better understand what's contributing to ongoing symptoms and explore rehabilitation options.

Today, Jacob's story is one of hope. "Over the span of 4 years I had a lot of ups & downs with a mild concussion. I was treated by both Dr Chad Gordon and Dr Gary Dennis - both were great. Their rehabilitation process has changed my life, not only for the concussion symptoms, but learning how to rest and look after myself properly."

Stories like Jacob's remind us that everyone's recovery journey is different.

If you've been living with ongoing concussion symptoms for months—or even years—don't assume you've run out of options.

We're here to listen, assess your situation and discuss whether our approach may be appropriate for you.

Why does 10 minutes on your phone leave you feeling exhausted, dizzy or foggy?

If you've experienced a concussion, post-concussion syndrome or Long Covid, you're not imagining it.

Screens place a high demand on the visual and balance systems that help your brain process information and make sense of the world around you. When those systems are still recovering, even simple tasks like scrolling, reading emails or watching videos can become surprisingly difficult.

It's one of the most common symptoms we hear about in clinic.

The good news? It's often a clue that helps us understand what's driving your ongoing symptoms.

A simple place to start:
✓ Reduce screen brightness
✓ Increase text size
✓ Take regular breaks throughout the day

If screens are still triggering symptoms weeks or months after your injury, it may be worth looking deeper into what's going on.

People often ask me why I chose to dedicate my career to concussion rehabilitation.

The answer is simple.

Because I've lived it.

I've experienced multiple concussions myself and I understand how frustrating, confusing and isolating recovery can be.

I also know what it's feels like when people expect you to be "back to normal" long before you actually are.

That experience changed the direction of my career.

I wanted to create the kind of clinic I wish had existed when I was going through my own recovery.

A place that looks beyond the initial injury.

A place that takes the time to understand why someone is still experiencing headaches, dizziness, brain fog, balance problems or fatigue months after their concussion.

A place that treats every person as an individual because no two concussions are the same.

That's why I founded Concussion Care.

Every day, we meet people who have been told they're recovered but still don't feel like themselves.

If that's you, I want you to know that you're not alone—and there may be more we can do to help understand what's contributing to your symptoms.

If you're still struggling after a concussion, we'd be happy to talk through your situation.

Have you ever walked into a supermarket and suddenly felt completely overwhelmed?

The bright lights.

The constant movement.

The noise.

The decisions.

Then, before you've finished your shopping, all you want to do is leave.

If this sounds familiar after a concussion, post-concussion syndrome or Long COVID, you're not imagining it.

Busy environments place a high demand on your brain and nervous system. For some people, visual and vestibular overload, along with changes in nervous system regulation, can make everyday places feel exhausting.

The important thing to remember is this:

You're not "just anxious."

Your symptoms are real, and they can provide valuable clues about what's happening in your recovery.

If everyday environments are still affecting you weeks or months after your injury, it may be worth having a comprehensive assessment.

🌟 Understanding Concussion Care and Recovery Tips 🌟
Did you know that a concussion is a type of traumatic brain injury that affects millions each year, and recovery can be a deeply personal journey? Whether you're an athlete or had a slip at home, knowing how to care for your brain post-injury is crucial. Here are some key steps from our specialists at Concussion Care:
🔹 Rest and Recuperate: Your brain needs rest to heal! Ensure you get plenty of sleep and avoid activities that strain your cognitive functions.
🔹 Hydration and Nutrition: Drink plenty of fluids and eat a balanced diet. Nutrition plays a key role in healing.
🔹 Professional Care: Always consult with a healthcare professional. Concussion symptoms can be subtle and not immediately apparent.
🔹 Tailored Rehabilitation: Depending on your symptoms, treatments like chiropractic care, vestibular therapy for balance, or even hyperbaric oxygen therapy might be recommended.
🔹 Monitor and Adapt: Be vigilant about your symptoms, and adjust your recovery plan as needed with the help of your healthcare provider.
🔹 Gradual Return to Activities: Slowly reintroduce daily activities under guidance. Rushing can prolong recovery.
