Earthquakes again
The ground movement in the east of the North Island is not over. With the perigee this Friday and the months greatest earthquake risk happening around 30 January especially around Hawke’s Bay, it would be unwise to be too complacent.
I expect a sizeable jolt if not then, then in early February. What has happened at Tauranga may be a precursor to a larger event not far away. Nothing in nature is a one-off, it all is connected and the source is the moon.
At the moment, Mercury is getting ready to leave its alignment with the sun. That has been responsible for much of the wind that has brought on the rain system and humidity from Australia.
It is now leaving the influence of the Sun, and when a thing is finishing there is usually an increase in activity. Therefore, we need to be somewhat on alert.
Not that earthquakes of themselves in New Zealand have been dangerous, it has been the ongoing effects on the land, rivers, streams, and tides, that have affected us.
Look at the earthquake diagram below. Something is bound to snap in the earthquake-prone areas. For those who have the 2026 New Zealand weather book, look on page 385. There you will see the antipodal location of the sizeable jolt of the 29 January which is right above New Zealand.
While the intention is not to alarm the public, it is well to be prepared and aware of any ground noise and movement, and strange behaviour of birds and animals around this time. It seems Hastings residents have noticed a strangeness in the atmosphere.
My advice is to stay keen and watchful for the next few days especially if hiking around mountain streams. Stay well clear and high. There could be a sudden swelling which may take a while to stabilize.
