BOOKINGS:
Bookings can be made through private message (Facebook) or email. We try to release bookings one month in advance, on the 1st of every month, however eeach artist varies. We will not respond to booking requests/enquiries on our public posts. When making your booking we do encourage you to include your pepehā as well as a brief description of size, placement and any image references to help our artists provide you with the most accurate quote. If you don't know your pepehā, send a brief description of where you’re from and the why/reasons for receiving tāmoko.
NOTE: If you are wanting full sleeves, we require 2+ consecutive days to complete.
ARTISTS:
Bookings can be made via FB and email: [email protected]. We ask that you specify which artist you are interested in booking with. If you are unsure we can help find the right artist for the kind of style and placement you want.
RESCHEDULE:
Please message or email us at least 48 hours before your booking if you want to reschedule, anything after that time frame will require another deposit.
STYLE+DESIGN:
At Ngā Manu a Toi we are primarily known for traditional moko (Māori tattooing). We don't do other styles of tattooing. However we can recommend other artists who specialise in what you are after. All designs are drawn freehand on the day of your booking. In regards to coverups - they can be done, however if existing work is too dark/bold we will recommend laser removal beforehand.
PRICING:
We have a shop minimum of $350; pricing also depends on the size and placement you are wanting so please have those details ready before you make a booking. Our artists don’t have a set day rate as some works can be completed at varying times. Overall price may change depending on the size and how long it takes for our artist to complete the work. For example a forearm sleeve could cost between $1800 to $2000 which could be completed in a day.
PAYMENT OPTIONS:
We do not have a payment plan or 'pay off' options. Full payment is required on the day of your booking. Cash only, or bank transfer is acceptable depending on the artist’s preferences.
DEPOSITS:
A non-refundable deposit is required to secure your session; do not request a booking unless you are able to pay. Deposits are required within 48 hours of arranging a booking. If deposit is not paid the date will be open for someone else to book. Also, please only deposit the required amount to this account, no more; no less - the rest is to be paid in person on the day of your booking.
MOKO KANOHI:
Our artists prefer to do all mahi from the studio as they have all equipment needed here. We can only accommodate 5-8 whānau members as we have a small space to work with. We will consider travel, however other costs will have to be discussed.
PUHORO:
Puhoro are done over 5-8 consecutive days which are done in a noho style wānanga. Each artist runs their wānanga differently, however a majority of the mahi is completed in our whare. The cost of puhoro varies based on weight. If you are serious about puhoro, a consultation is required 2 months minimum prior to booking.
AGE RESTRICTIONS:
If you are 18+ years you do not need consent.
16/17 years must be accompanied by a parent or caregiver. We do require proof of ID.
PARKING:
We do have allocated parking parallel to our whare and shared parking outside the gate.
ON THE DAY:
Wear something comfortable on the day of your booking and make sure you have plenty of water and good kai to give you energy (We recommend not wearing white.) Due to our small studio, we allow one support person to sit with you during your session. If you bring more than one support person we will ask that you sub in and out to allow our artists space to work.
Have a good sleep the night before and a decent breakfast, come ready mentally and physically and trust in the process.
GUEST ARTIST:
If you are an artist visiting Tāmaki Makaurau and wanting somewhere to work from during your visit, please email us at [email protected]. We would be honoured to host you during your stay.
