Kia ora!

Meet Laken, one of our Dental Assistants and Receptionists! 👋

She has been part of the team since 2024. She is currently in her second year of studying Oral Health Therapy at AUT, working towards becoming an oral health therapist.

You’ll find Laken supporting both chairside and at reception, helping keep each day running smoothly. She is known for her calm, friendly nature and her ability to make patients feel comfortable from the moment they arrive, especially those who may be feeling a little nervous.

Laken enjoys learning new skills and gaining hands-on experience across all areas of the clinic, and takes pride in being part of a team that supports patients at every step of their journey.

Outside of the clinic, she enjoys playing touch and netball, going to the gym, and spending time with her whānau.

She looks forward to welcoming you and your whānau at the clinic! 💙

🦷Service Spotlight: Dental fillings

Dental fillings help restore teeth affected by decay before more extensive treatment becomes necessary.

Routine dental check-ups allow us to detect cavities early, often before they become painful. Our team takes the time to explain your options and ensure you're comfortable throughout the procedure. Whether you need a simple, a large, or a deep filling, we're here to provide gentle, supportive care.

If you have questions about your smile or would like personalised advice, our team is here to help. Every smile is unique, and we'll guide you through your options so you can make an informed decision with confidence. 💙

🇹🇴 Si’oto ‘ofa atu moe Uike Lea Faka-Tonga.

The 2026 theme for Uike Lea Faka-Tonga is:
“Ko ‘etau hiva, ko e fe’unu mahu’inga ia ki he mo’ui ‘a e Tonga”
Our music is a vital strand of our Tongan culture.

A pleasant reminder for our MyDental team. Our Tongan heritage is part of the story behind who we are, and the values that guide how we care for our patients — Faka’apa’apa (Respect), Loto tō (Humility), Tauhi Vā (Nurturing Relationships), and Mamahi’i Mea (Loyalty and Passion).

We are proud to celebrate lea faka-Tonga, to create a space where our kāinga feel seen, welcomed and at home.

Our Tongan phrase for the week:
“Ko e koloa ‘a Tonga koe fakamālō.”
The expression of gratitude is the treasure of Tonga.💙🇹🇴

Mālō e ngaue pea mālo e poupou to all who continue to keep our language and culture alive.

Tu’a ‘ofa atu. 💙

🦷 A day in the life of a dentist

It's Week 3 of National Oral Health Month and this week's theme is Connect. We think connection is a big part of good dental care.

A dentist’s day isn’t just about treating teeth. It’s about listening, getting to know our patients, understanding what matters to them, and working together to care for their oral health.

Come along for a little glimpse into a day with Dr Asa at MyDental. 💙

Because looking after you and your whānau is at the heart of what we do.🩵

🪥 How long should you actually brush your teeth?

It’s Week 2 of National Oral Health Month, and this week is all about brushing! So our team took on the NZDA Healthy Smiles 2-minute challenge… with a little MyDental twist. 👀

Caira and Patricia had to hold a plank and wall squat for the full 2 minutes while Laken brushed her teeth — but did they make it to the end? 😂

Before watching let us know in the comments:
How long do you think they lasted? 👇

While we’re having a bit of fun, there’s an important reminder behind the challenge: brush your teeth twice a day for 2 minutes with fluoride toothpaste. 🦷

In Aotearoa, only 62.9% of children and 66.2% of adults brush with fluoride toothpaste at least twice a day. There’s always room to make those small daily habits count.

And remember, your oral health is unique to you. If you have questions about your smile or aren't sure what you should be doing at home, our team is always happy to help.

Looking after you and your whānau is at the heart of what we do. 💙

💙 This is why we do what we do.

One of the things we hear most often from patients is that they feel nervous before their appointment.

We want you to know — you're not alone.

Thank you to this patient for sharing such kind words about their experience at our Papatoetoe clinic. Knowing that Dr Joel and the team helped them feel comfortable and at ease means so much to us.

We understand that dental anxiety is real, and we believe every patient deserves to be met with patience, kindness, and a friendly face from the moment they walk through the door.

No pressure. No judgement. Just a team here to listen, support you, and help you feel comfortable throughout your visit.

Looking after you and your whānau is at the heart of what we do. 💙
