Today we acknowledge Te Rā Mokopuna Ora (National Safe Sleep Day). Sadly around 40-60 babies die from 'Sudden Unexpected Death in Infancy' each year in Aotearoa. Māori and Pacific pēpi continue to be disproportionately affected 😢

Simple steps can make a big difference: placing pēpi on their back, in their own safe sleep space, on a firm and flat surface, with no pillows, loose blankets or toys. A wahakura, Pēpi-Pod, cot or bassinet can all support safer sleep when used correctly.

At Manu Ora, we can help by talking with hapū māmā, parents, and whānau about safe sleep. There is ZERO shame in asking for help. If you are preparing for a new pēpi, caring for a baby, or unsure whether your sleep set-up is safe, have a kōrero with our team. We are here to walk alongside you and help keep our mokopuna safe, well, and thriving 💚

Did you know, it's Youth Week - an important time to celebrate how amazing our rangatahi are, and how important for our future! 🤩

It’s also a reminder that supporting rangatahi to thrive is a shared responsibility. When young people are heard, valued, connected and given the right support, they can stand strong in who they are and step confidently into who they are becoming.

This week, we acknowledge the awesomeness and impact of rangatahi - and the whānau, mentors, kaiako, youth workers, and communities who walk alongside them.

We love this from message from Ara Taiohi - Peak Body for Youth Development: "This week is an invitation to tell them so. It doesn't take a grand gesture - it takes intention. Take a moment to look at the young people in your life and ask yourself what you'd want them to know about the difference they make" 💚

It's World Family Doctor Day, so shout-out to our amazing Mātanga Rata (doctors). We are so proud of the breadth of pūkenga you bring to our mahi: clinical knowledge, careful listening, compassion, advocacy, cultural understanding, and the steady commitment to seeing the whole person - not just the symptoms in front of you.

Thank you all for the role you play in strengthening the hauora of our whānau and wider hapori 💚

Bowel screening saves lives! Bowel cancer is one of the most common cancers in Aotearoa, BUT if detected early, it’s highly treatable.

So, if you’re age 58-74 and have been sent a test kit, don’t put it aside, take the test and return it. If you're in this age range & haven’t received a kit, please contact us to follow up.

Your health matters whānau. Early detection can make a BIG difference 💚
