Today is International FASD (fetal alcohol spectrum disorder) awareness day.
Held on September the ninth – 09/09 each year, it highlights the importance of staying alcohol-free during the full nine months of pregnancy.
When we drink alcohol, the alcohol in our blood cells can pass through the placenta from a mother to her child. The range of effects caused by alcohol exposure before birth is called FASD.
Those with FASD will experience some degree of challenges in their daily living, and may need support with motor skills, physical health, learning, memory, attention, communication, emotional regulation, and social skills.
