In August 2018, I won the Organic Colour Systems Eco Salon Award

This was an award that I saw another hairdresser win two years before at the bi annual seminar & awards evening & one year before I changed over to OCS.
I said to my husband at those awards, I’m going to win that next!
I put that out into the universe & made sure my salon was as eco conscious as it could be… manifesting in full swing!

🪷I’m Kalita

🪷I started & completed my 4 year apprenticeship in the 90s 🤯 sounds like so long ago!

🪷I’ve worked in different salons in London, Brisbane aswell as where I trained & my own homebased hair studio in New Zealand
Working with many different stylists taught me a lot of skills

🪷I work as a casual part timer at Just Cuts. And yes, hairdressers look down their noses at us but I have learnt so much from working there since arriving back in Brisbane last year

🪷I chose to work there because apart from travelling to the city & driving in rush hour traffic which I’m not used to after years of walking from our back door to my salon door, I couldn’t find a salon that fit my ethos.
Nothing is as low tox as I am prepared to work in & close enough to home for me

🪷I’m all for as natural as possible. I walk the walk & talk the talk! I hand pick products based on the company ethos & ingredients

🪷I am passionate about sharing with people that there are better, cleaner alternatives to traditional salons (which is where I trained in my apprenticeship)

💦Drying hair aggressively by rubbing back & forth with a regular cotton towel is how you create damaged hair that becomes tangled & frizzy with breakage

💦When hair is fragile & wet, squeezing the hair with a microfibre towel instead is a gentle effective way to dry hair

💦Microfibre towels absorb water better, so if you have one stashed away in the linen cupboard dig it out & try squeezing instead of vigorously rubbing
