One of the things I’ve been learning on placement is just how important postnatal visits are.

Those early days after birth can be beautiful, overwhelming, exhausting, emotional… often all at once.

Postnatal care is where midwives walk alongside women and their whānau during that transition — checking on physical recovery, supporting feeding, answering questions, and helping new parents find their confidence.

It’s a privilege to witness those quiet moments of learning, bonding, and growing together.

The work doesn’t end at birth — in many ways, it’s only just beginning 🤍

Mother–baby dyad care 🤍

Postpartum support isn’t just about checking observations, it’s about understanding the dynamic between mother and baby.

Feeding, attachment, recovery, emotional wellbeing…each influences the other.

When we protect the dyad, we promote long-term wellbeing for both. 🌿

Counting down to the start of a new semester…1 week to go 🌿

Before diving back in, I wanted to pause and honour the journey so far. The learning, the trust from whānau, and the moments that affirmed I’m exactly where I’m meant to be.

This summer has been about refilling my cup — slowly, intentionally — and I’m stepping into the new semester feeling grateful and ready. This summer offered space to refill my cup through rest, family time, and caring for women at the Fresh Start retreat with and also at . Feeling grounded, grateful, and ready to step back in ✨

Back at the desk, notes out, lectures replaying, and reminding myself that focus doesn’t have to look perfect — it just has to start. One page at a time, the focus slowly comes back.

Last day on campus for the semester 🌿

It’s hard to believe how fast this year has gone — four more assignments stand between me and the end of Year 1! I just got a couple of grades back and I’m feeling proud of how far I’ve come (and also a little tired 😅).

This semester has been full of learning, growth, and finding balance between study, whānau, and self-care.

The finish line is close, and I’m taking it one step at a time 💪

Halfway through the semester ✨

This study break has been full of assignments, reflection, and trying to keep the motivation flowing. Some days feel slow, but reaching this halfway mark reminds me how far I’ve come already. 🌸

✨ Mid-semester pause ✨

It’s school holidays for the kiddos, which means my days feel a little fuller and busier. Between keeping up with family life and trying to get on top of my assignments, I’m finding it important to carve out little spaces for myself.

Lately, that’s looked like gently reintroducing yoga into my routine. 🧘‍♀️ It’s been a while, and I forgot how much my body and mind crave that slow movement and mindful breathing. I’m not aiming for perfection, just consistency and presence, even a few minutes makes a big difference.

As I look ahead to the rest of the semester, I’m grateful for the reminder that balance is about small, intentional choices. Study, family, and self-care don’t have to compete, they can weave together.

💫 Here’s to finding calm in the chaos and remembering to nurture ourselves, too.

💪 The uterus is considered as one of the strongest muscles in the body.
It grows to hold baby, works powerfully in labour, and then shrinks back down afterward. Truly incredible!
