Not all tattoo cartridges are the same 🖤
& no, I don’t reach for the same needles for tattooing as I do for my PMU ✨
A lot of thought goes into the tools I choose before a tattoo or brow appointment even begins.
Different needle configurations are designed for completely different purposes — from crisp fine lines, to soft black & grey shading, to delicate healed brow work. Even things like taper, diameter, grouping, & ink flow can affect how the skin takes pigment. Age, skin type, and placement also play a huge role in how work heals long term.
For my fine line tattoo work, I tend to gravitate toward configurations like:
✦ 3RL for delicate detail
✦ 5RL for stronger structure
✦ curved mags & smaller 5–7 round shaders for soft pepper shading and smooth blends
Whereas PMU requires a much softer, more controlled approach.
Cosmetic tattooing sits differently in the skin compared to body tattooing, which is why I choose to work with specific PMU cartridges designed for precision, softness, & gentle pigment implantation, especially for Ombré Brows, where healed results matter just as much as fresh ones.
Using the correct cartridges for each service helps minimise unnecessary trauma to the skin while creating cleaner, softer, longer-lasting healed results 🤍
Good equipment alone doesn’t make a good artist, but understanding why certain tools are used absolutely matters.
There’s a lot more intention behind the setup than most people realise.
