As the weekend nears, and the workweek ends, we are so thankful to have been able to celebrate Samoan language week 2026 here at ScreenSouth. To end, we'd love for you to meet one of our newer kaimahi, Christina. She is a walking ray of light and is committed to the meaningful work that her new role entails. Read more below! 🥰😍

"My name is Christina Gaitafili Davison (née Ah-Hi). I was born in Safotu and spent my early years growing up in the village of Auala, Savai’i, before moving to Aotearoa with my family at the age of 11. As the eldest of five children, family, responsibility, and service are values I learned early and continue to carry with me today.

Being Samoan is something I am incredibly proud of. Our culture has taught me the importance of faith, family, respect and caring for others. No matter where life has taken me, those values have remained at the centre of who I am.

For the past 13 years, I dedicated myself to raising my family as a full-time mum after many years in the corporate world. Being a mother to five children has been my greatest privilege and has shaped the way I connect with people, support others, and approach life with resilience and compassion. I recently joined BreastScreen South, where I support the Māori and Pasifika Women’s Portfolio. It is a role that allows me to continue serving my community and contribute to improving health outcomes for Pacific and Māori women.

I believe service doesn’t always happen on a stage or in the spotlight. Sometimes it happens through a conversation, a helping hand or simply showing up for others. For me, that is what tautua looks like and it is a value I hope to pass on to my children and future generations.

Fa’afetai lava ❤️"

Malo lava Christina, we are so happy to have you as a part of the team and thankful for you sharing such a beautiful testament to your life, culture, service and mahi.

Talofa Lava,

Meet Sene! Our Health Promotions Coordinator. This year we celebrate Samoan language week 2026 with the theme in mind - ‘E afua mai i mauga tetele manuia o le 'nu'u - From the high mountains are the blessings of the village.

Read about Sene below! 🥰

"Being Samoan is at the heart of who I am. I come from the villages of Samusu Aleipata through my mother, and Tuanai, Afega and Malie through my father. These roots have shaped my faith, values, and love for serving others.
Tautua means serving with love, humility, honour, and respect, values deeply rooted in both my Samoan culture and Christian faith. I believe in loving God, loving people, and teaching my children to honour their family, respect their elders, and serve others with a humble heart. Carrying these values forward is a legacy I hope to pass down for generations to come."

Fa'afetai lava Sene 🌸

Talofa lava 🤍

‘O lo’u igoa o Lia, a proud Aotearoa-born Samoan woman, with roots in Lalomanu (Taufua-Siose), Fasito’outa (Aiono) and Aleisa (Ah Mu).

I’m the Communications & Media kaimahi at ScreenSouth, and for Samoan Language Week I wanted to share a bit of my journey.

Like many NZ born Samoans, my connection to culture hasn’t always felt straightforward. There were times I didn’t feel “Samoan enough” I couldn’t sing, dance, or spike a volleyball 😅 But over time, I’ve learned that our culture shows up in so many different ways.

Mine grew through education and storytelling. While studying History at UC, I discovered narratives like the Dawn Raids, stories our families didn’t always speak about, shaped by silence, misunderstanding, and hurt. That learning shifted something in me.

Now, through my work in health communications, I’ve found my way to serve our people. I’m passionate about breaking down barriers, addressing inequities, and creating messages that truly resonate with our Pasifika communities.
I may not be on the stage, but I am using my voice to uplift, inform, and contribute to better outcomes for our people ❤️

At ScreenSouth, I’m proud to help break the tapu around screening health and encourage our communities to put themselves first. That, to me, is part of honouring my culture.

Still learning, still growing but always proud.

Fa’afetai lava ✨

Last weekend ScreenSouth Kaimahi were thrilled to be at the Waitaha Senior Regional Kapa Haka Competition.

We networked, shared discussions and managed to connect with community who had never been screened or were due for screening. This is what it's all about for us! The mahi is meaningful and the connection with our community within the region is important. Thank you for having us 🥰

Meet Kim! One of our amazing Screening Support Advisors delivering the National Cervical Screening programme regionally here in Waitaha | Canterbury.

The wonderful Kim has been serving in our ScreenSouth space for eight whole years and loves her role.

"I really enjoy working in the cervical screening space, it fills my cup knowing I am helping to save lives. I have also gained a deep appreciation for the necessity and importance of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and love working in a space that prioritises women's health for our wāhine."

Kim travels to work on her fabulous E-Bike and inspires our office to continue to move well. Outside of work Kim spends time with her animals and getting into a great read.

"Outside of work and on weekends you’ll usually find me out walking my dogs or curled up on the couch with a good book." Kim is currently reading Wuthering Heights!

Thank you for being a part of our Women Walking Beside you campaign, Kim! You are a truly treasured part of our Kaimahi.
