From General Surgery to Endoscopy: Care Delivered Closer to Home.

The Mobile Surgical Unit supports a range of day surgery services, providing patients with access to care in a modern, fully equipped surgical environment closer to home.

These include:
• General Surgery
• Paediatric Dental
• ENT (Ear, Nose & Throat)
• Gynaecology
• Plastic Surgery
• Orthopaedics
• Endoscopy

The Art of Mobile Healthcare

Every organisation has a story to tell. At Mobile Health Group, ours is a story of people, communities, innovation and care.

To help bring that story to life, Christchurch artist Ellie Compton - Artist created a unique artwork inspired by the people, places and moments that have shaped our journey.

Many will remember Ellie from the WONCA World Rural Health Conference, where she created a live artwork inspired by attendees' reflections on Hauora. Building on that collaboration, she has now created a visual interpretation of Mobile Health Group.

As our Chief Executive Mark Eager reflects: "Ellie has captured our story in a way that words alone often cannot. It is a story of healthcare without walls. It captures not only the movement and complexity of our healthcare delivery, but also the shared purpose that sits behind it: improving access to care for rural New Zealanders."

GOING BEYOND THE PROCEDURE FOR RURAL WHĀNAU

When a young Wairarapa patient visited the Mobile Surgical Unit for dental surgery, our team worked with local Health New Zealand staff to coordinate additional care during the same visit.

By bringing several healthcare services together in one location and at one time, the team helped reduce additional travel, disruption and stress for both the patient and whānau.

A huge shout-out to Rodney, one of our outstanding drivers, whose actions during the flooding between Oamaru and Timaru last month left a lasting impression on fellow road users.

“I would like to say that me and my husband are very impressed with your truck driver… he was very good at putting his hazard lights on every time there was water across the road. I just want to say thank you to the driver and give him a big hug for genuinely being a good guy out there and being a true truck driver….Please send our thanks to him if we don't catch up to him and give him a huge hug from us – and he deserves a beer.” – Juanita and Ross.

For Rodney, it may have seemed like a small gesture. But for those sharing the road that day, it made a real difference.

At the heart of what we do is caring for people and communities, and Rodney demonstrated exactly that. His professionalism, awareness and willingness to look out for others reflect the values we strive to uphold every day – and can be as simple as taking an extra moment to help keep others safe.

As much of New Zealand experiences icy temperatures and challenging road conditions, this photo of our PET-CT unit parked up at a somewhat snow-covered site in Dunedin is a reminder of the conditions many of our teams navigate to reach rural communities across the country.

Rodney, thank you for keeping our communities safe, and to everyone travelling during this cold snap, stay safe and take care!

A few more moments from Clinical Education Week – a fantastic week of learning, connection and collaboration.

Bringing our clinical team together is always a reminder of the expertise, energy and commitment that exists across Mobile Health Group. From the education sessions and shared learning to the conversations in between, the week reinforced the importance of both professional development and staying connected as a team.

Clinical Education Week isn't just about exploring how we can do things better – it's about strengthening the connections, shared purpose and teamwork that help us deliver high-quality care to rural communities across Aotearoa.

We couldn't be prouder of our incredible work whānau, and the difference they make for patients, communities and each other every day.

A young patient’s māmā has shared her gratitude after her tamāhine received dental treatment onboard our mobile surgical unit.

She spoke about the genuine manaaki shown by our team — not just treating teeth but helping her and her daughter feel welcomed, reassured and supported every step of the way.

These moments remind us 𝘄𝗵𝘆 we do what we do. Access to healthcare can change a day, a smile, a taitamaiti/child’s confidence — and sometimes much more.

To our incredible team/tīma, thank you for making a difference where it matters most, and for creating moments that leave a lasting impact on patients and the whānau/families we serve in rural Aotearoa New Zealand.

Clinical Education Week

Our clinical team recently hit pause on life on the road and came together in Christchurch for Clinical Education Week – a chance to reconnect, share experiences, and learn from inspiring speakers and each other.

From safeguarding and child protection to the realities of healthcare told with honesty, humour and heart, the week was packed with valuable conversations and fresh perspectives.

The week reinforced something we already know: Great healthcare is built on teamwork. Whether on the road, in clinics, behind the scenes, or supporting patients and whānau, every person plays an important role in delivering safe, high-quality care to rural communities across Aotearoa New Zealand.

The result? Stronger connections, new ideas, and an even greater commitment to providing safe, high-quality care where it’s needed most.

A huge thank you to our clinical team for making the time to attend, contribute and engage so openly throughout the week. We're also incredibly grateful to the presenters, facilitators and hosts who helped make the week both inspiring and impactful.

We thought it was a good time to reintroduce ourselves and share a little more about what we do.

Mobile Health Group is built on a simple but powerful belief: every New Zealander deserves access to quality care, no matter where they live. Our mobile units continue to travel the length and breadth of Aotearoa – from Kaikohe in the far North to Gore in the deep South – delivering healthcare to more than 50,000 patients over the past 30 years. Alongside this, our education programme My Health Hub strengthens clinical capability across the motu, providing high-quality, accessible training for rural health professionals.
