Calendula Herb Highlight:

Known as the sunshine herb due to its bright orange and yellow flowers, which you may see around at most times of the year. Energetically, calendula is linked to vitality, confidence, creativity and life force. It's a herb that brings warmth to the heart and works with you during times of grief, heaviness or lingering emotions. The lymphatic properties of the herb are especially helpful this time of year when our bodies tend to experience more congestion and immune challenges.

Therapeutically, it's used to help with the relief of enlarged lymph nodes, relieving inflammatory conditions of the digestive system, internally and topically for acne and healthy wound healing.

It is normal to feel and behave a bit differently during the colder, darker months. Most people find they sleep more, eat more or crave different foods, want to spend more time “hibernating” at home and generally feel less energetic during these times. It is part of the natural cycle of the seasons and can be a useful time for resting and slowing down.

However, Seasonal Affective Disorder, sometimes known as ‘winter depression’ is a condition where people experience low mood (alongside other symptoms) that has a seasonal pattern. Usually beginning in Autumn / Winter and ending in Spring / Summer. Whilst exact causes are unknown, less sunlight and shorter days are thought to be linked to a chemical change in the brain resulting in low serotonin and a decrease in Vitamin D.

There are multiple treatment options available. Here are some effective natural nutrients that we commonly prescribe in our dispensary and clinic with positive results.

5-HTP: Is an amino acid derived from a plant that naturally increases the body’s level of serotonin, the chemical messenger that affects emotions, behavior, appetite and sleep.

Vitamin D: Is a fat soluble vitamin that supports musculoskeletal, cardiovascular, neurocognitive, cellular and immune health.

Sleep hygiene refers to the daily habits and environment that help us get deeper, higher-quality sleep.

Good sleep hygiene can support more restorative sleep, make it easier to fall asleep, improve mood and stress levels, and help maintain more consistent energy throughout the day.

Sleep hygiene tips:
Keep a consistent sleep and wake time, even on weekends
Reduce screen time — phones, TV, etc. — at least an hour before bed
Dim lights in the evening, as bright light can trick your brain into thinking it’s daytime and may inhibit melatonin production
Keep your room cool, dark and quiet
Try calming support such as Sleep Well tincture, calming herbal tea or magnesium glycinate
Practise calming evening rituals like reading, yoga nidra, stretching or breathwork
Get natural sunlight exposure first thing in the morning to support your natural cortisol rhythm

It's that time of year again....

Lemon Ginger Turmeric Wellness Shots!

5-ingredient wellness shots with anti-inflammatory benefits, a mega-dose of Vitamin C, and a delicate balance of flavors to create the ultimate juice to boost immunity.

1 small orange (add 1-2 more oranges for added sweetness / omit and add another lemon for less sweetness!)
2 small lemons (add 1-2 more lemons for more acidity / reduce by half and add another orange for less acidity!)
1/4 cup chopped fresh turmeric (peeling optional)
1/4 cup chopped fresh ginger (peeling optional)
1/8 tsp fresh black pepper
1/4 tsp oil (such as extra virgin or coconut oil, optional / to help improve turmeric absorption)

Will keep in the fridge for up to 24 hours (though best fresh) or freeze into ice cubes to use as needed 🌼
