Give Me Life

Give Me Life As women we are constantly trying to balance careers, homes and families. When they are in balance, we look and feel our best.

Nutritional and lifestyle support for all aspects of women's health; and natural fertility management and support for couples/individuals wishing to achieve or avoid pregnancy naturally. And as a Clinical Nutritionist and Lifestyle Coach, I know that it can be even harder to keep our hormones, diets and stress levels under control. The resulting imbalance can cause a variety of issues that are har

mful to women’s health and happiness. It’s simple, really: hormones influence our behaviour, emotions, brain chemicals, immunity and metabolism, affecting reproductive health, energy levels, weight, mood and much more. But when they are out of kilter, they can make our lives miserable. We feel lethargic, irritable, weepy, grumpy, unappreciated, anxious or depressed. The good news is that up to 90% of hormone imbalances can be corrected with simple shifts in how we eat, move, think and supplement. As a qualified Nutritionist Lifestyle Coach, I can show you how. You might have reproductive concerns, (peri-)menopausal symptoms, adrenal or thyroid issues; or you might simply not be feeling like yourself. I am here to help you discover the cause, rebalance your hormones and reclaim your life.

Probiotics are beneficial during each trimester of pregnancy, as the health of the health of a mother’s microbiome helps determine the health of her baby’s microbiome, and their subsequent immune and digestive health.⁣⁣🤰🏽 ⁣⁣
There are several beneficial probiotics strains that can be used to promote microbiome health during pregnancy.⁣⁣
⁣⁣
One of the most significant is Lactobacillus rhamnosus (LGG®). When taken at a dose of 20 billion live bacteria each day, LGG® has been⁣⁣ shown to support healthy immune development in infants and children that leads to a reduction in eczema symptoms, such as itching and sleeplessness, as well as a reduction in certain allergies.🌻⁣⁣ ⁣⁣

Optimal levels of omega-3 fatty acids are super important during pregnancy and while breastfeeding. They support baby’s brain and nervous system development, reduce risk of preterm birth, and support mum’s mental health during and after pregnancy.

The sad fact is that most of us are significantly deficient even before we get pregnant; and baby will take what little we have during the pregnancy to try and support growth and development, leaving mum completely depleted. And research shows that this increases risk of depression and/or anxiety in new mums.

For optimal health and wellbeing of both mother and baby I recommend you begin taking a quality omega-3 fatty acid supplement 2-3 months prior to conception to build up your stores and then continue to take during pregnancy and breastfeeding.

It is common for New Zealanders to be low in vitamin D3. Supplementation is often required to improve those levels. Optimal levels of vitamin D (80-150 nmol/L) are also essential to reduce risk of breast cancer.

Dr. Declan Byrne says taking a Vitamin D supplement could prove to be an important recommendation while we struggle to find an effective drug or vaccine to treat COVID-19.

I commonly see couples timing in*******se too late to get pregnant because they are using an ovulation kit. Your egg is only viable for up to 24-hours from the point of ovulation before it begins to break down. And as we get older that window of opportunity can drop to as little as 12-hours.

By the time you have checked if you have ovulated with your kit, your point of ovulation may have already occurred 12-24 hours earlier and you have missed your chance for conception.

Learning to chart your fertility with an accredited Natural Fertility NZ practitioner such as myself means you will be able to anticipate ovulation before it happens and ensure you time in*******se to optimise your chances of conception.

We all know that taking folic acid (or activated folate) before and during early pregnancy significantly reduces the risk of baby having Neural Tube Defects (NTD), right?

New research indicates that adequate levels of choline are just as important as folic acid before and during pregnancy (and while breastfeeding) to support baby’s development (particularly neurological) and reduce risk of NTD. Adequate amounts of choline are required to support the delivery of other essential nutrients to your unborn child.

If you have a diet low in animal foods, then it’s critical that you supplement with choline to support both yourself and baby during pregnancy and whilst breastfeeding.
