September is World Alzheimer’s Month.

Around 83,000 Kiwis were living with Dementia Mate Wareware in 2025, and three people develop the condition every hour. By 2050, that number is expected to reach almost 170,000.

⭐️ NZ’s Best Awards update ⭐️

The University of Canterbury’s Department of Statistics has completed its analysis of more than 5,180 reviews submitted over the past 12 months.

From nearly 1,200 retirement villages and aged-care facilities across New Zealand, just 55 facilities and five head offices will be recognised in the 2026 NZ’s Best Awards.

We’ll be revealing this year’s winners and finalists at the beginning of October. We can’t wait to celebrate the organisations providing outstanding care and service to older New Zealanders... watch this space!

A simple front-door decal is helping people living with dementia feel more familiar and comfortable in their surroundings. Sometimes, it’s the little things that open the door to feeling at home.

There are calls for more personalised “front doors” to be introduced into specialised dementia care homes.

⭐️ We're so proud of 'our girl' Zoe Hobbs coming away with gold - the first Kiwi to ever do so in the 100m sprint category!

What an encouragement she is to us all - "I just think about the time I was told I shouldn't do the 100m because it's too hard to do, that I should consider doing other events because I'll never make it as a sprinter in the 100m."

Go Zoe - Kiwis really can fly!

The 28-year-old finished with a national record time of 10.93s despite the wet conditions in Glasgow.
