Last week I shared a little about how easy it can be to lose parts of yourself inside all the caring.
Caring for children. Partners. Parents. Clients. Work. Homes. Life.
And somewhere in the middle of all that, self-care can start to sound like another job on the list.
But I don’t think real self-care is about doing it perfectly.
It’s not always a spa day, a green smoothie, a meditation app, or an elaborate morning routine that requires you to wake at 5am and become a different person. Thank goodness.
Sometimes self-care is much smaller.
It’s leaving your phone behind for a walk.
It’s reading something that reminds you you’re still growing.
It’s sitting outside with a cup of tea.
It’s laughing until your shoulders drop.
It’s writing down what’s been circling in your mind.
It’s noticing the sun on your face.
It’s being with someone who understands.
Rest matters, of course. Deeply.
But self-care is also creativity, connection, laughter, space, gratitude, and the small moments that help you come back to yourself.
Maybe the question isn’t, “Am I doing enough self-care?”
Maybe it’s:
What helps me feel like myself again?
That’s a much kinder place to start.
