Happy Father’s Day ❤️

Today, I’m remembering my dad.

In 2017, while I was going through chemotherapy, I travelled to Zimbabwe to see him.

He passed away while I was there.

It was one of the hardest moments of my life, but I’m forever grateful that I made the journey. I got to see him, spend that precious time with him, and be there when he passed.

Life doesn’t always go according to plan. Sometimes, even in the middle of the hardest seasons, we have to make the journey, show up, and hold onto the moments that matter.

That’s a big part of what Altered Freedom means to me — living life anyway. ❤️

Today, we celebrate and remember all dads — those who are here, those who are far away, and those who live on forever in our hearts.

Happy Father’s Day. ❤️🕊️

We were both sick. Then came treatment. ❤️

And on the other side of it… there were mountains to climb, places to explore, adventures to have and life to live.

Me hiking. Kathryn travelling. Both of us wearing our Womansback backpacks — doing the things we love, carrying more than just a backpack. 🎒

A reminder that there can be life, adventure and freedom after treatment.

This is why we created Altered Freedom.

Because getting through it is one thing.

Two years after breast cancer treatment, I stood at the base of Mt Iron in Wānaka.

I knew this walk wouldn't feel the same.

My body had changed. My confidence had changed. My fitness had changed.

There were moments I wondered if I'd make it to the top. But I kept putting one foot in front of the other.

Standing at the summit, looking over Lake Wānaka through the winter inversion, I realised something...

Breast cancer altered my life.

It didn't stop me living it.

It doesn't always involve passports, mountains or finish lines.

Sometimes, the most meaningful moments are much quieter.

Sitting beside someone you love, with nowhere else you need to be.

Breast cancer has a way of changing your perspective. It reminds you not to take these moments for granted.

Freedom isn't always found in the places we go. Sometimes it's found in the people we're with.

These are the moments I treasure most.

Eighteen months later I was walking down from the Gornergrat with the Matterhorn behind me.

Breast cancer altered my life.

It didn't stop me living it.
