🚨 MODESTY CAN WAIT. A HEART CAN’T. ❤️

This might be uncomfortable to talk about… but it’s something that could save someone’s life.

If you ever need to use an AED on someone, their chest must be bare. That means if they’re wearing a bra, it needs to be cut or removed before applying the AED pads.

💔 We know this can feel awkward.
❤️ But saving a life is far more important than protecting a person’s modesty during a medical emergency.

The AED pads need to stick directly to the skin to work properly. Clothing, including bras, can delay treatment and reduce the effectiveness of the pads. Every second counts when someone’s heart has stopped.

Remember:
⚡ Call 111.
⚡ Start CPR immediately.
⚡ Remove or cut away clothing so the chest is exposed.
⚡ Apply the AED pads exactly as shown on the unit.
⚡ Let the AED do its job.

Nobody who survives a cardiac arrest is going to be upset that you removed their bra to save their life. They’ll be grateful you gave them the chance to see their whānau again.

Let’s normalise talking about this, because the more people who know, the more lives we can save.
