✨✨MATARIKI HOURS ✨✨

We will be closed Friday 10th June 2026
Open: Saturday 11th June 9am - 12pm
Closed: Sunday 12th June

Matariki is a special NZ calendar event, celebrating the Māori New Year. This is signified by the Matariki cluster of stars appearing in our night sky. Matariki is a time to come together and reflect on the past and those who have passed on, it is a time to celebrate the present with kai and time with our families and communities and a time to look ahead and plan the future

Even though we are closed patients can still phone us on 09 439 8079 and you will be triaged by our After Hours Service - Ka Ora Telehealth. They can organise a telephone consult or a video call with a Dr or if face to face care is needed they will forward you to the appropriate service.
For all life threatening conditions or medical emergencies please phone 111
We will be back to our normal opening hours on Monday 13th June

Happy Matariki Everyone

We know many people have been inaccurately advised about the recent changes at Dargaville Hospital / Dargaville Health Hub - especially around overnight care. This has raised concerns and anxiety, which is completely understandable.

It’s important to be clear about what things have looked like for some time. Most acute care in Dargaville has been provided by DMC (with a patient fee). Overnight, care has largely been nurse-led at Dargaville Hospital, with telehealth doctor support, and patients who are more unwell have often needed transfer to Whangārei. Like many rural areas, both DMC and Dargaville Hospital face ongoing challenges with staff recruitment and retention.

The new Dargaville Health Hub model improves on this. It provides expanded and more consistent in-person care in the evenings and on weekends, meaning more people can be seen locally rather than waiting or travelling. It also supports a more structured, collaborative approach between DMC and hospital services - improving patient flow, continuity of care, and helping create a more sustainable workforce over time.

We are committed to helping make this system work as safely and effectively as possible with the resources we have, and we will continue to advocate strongly for improved services, while working in good faith with Health New Zealand.

We care deeply about our community and will keep working to ensure Dargaville gets the care it needs.
