The WellSouth Newborn Enrolment Kahu Taurima Programme is a finalist at the Primary Care Awards for the HALEO Best Supplier Service, Product or Campaign category.

WellSouth Pou Haumanu Māori - Clinical Advisor Māori, Dr Miriama Ketu-McKenzie designed and spearheaded this programme with support from the WellSouth Teams including Equity, Practice Partners and Communication & Engagement. The programme was also supported by colleagues within Health New Zealand - Te Whatu Ora

At its heart, the WellSouth Newborn Enrolment Kahu Taurima Programme was designed to reduce inequities for priority populations who may face barriers to engaging with general practice. It also aligns with the funding and performance expectations Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora introduced for general practice to reach a 6-week immunisation target as part of the National Immunisation Schedule.

One consumer who provided feedback for the evaluation said she “100% would encourage friends and whānau to enrol their pēpi early and receive their Newborn Welcome Kete”. Many other mothers spoke very positively of the kete, emphasising how much they appreciated the gifts, especially at a time when finances are tight”, Dr Miriama Ketu-McKenzie says.

Winners will be announced on 17 October.

👀 Get familiar with us

Take the time to learn what's normal for you. Look for new lumps, and any changes to your breast shape/size or ni***es. If something's changed, get it checked by your healthcare provider ASAP.

📅 Don't skip your screening

Breast screening can help find breast cancer early, before it spreads. BreastScreen Aotearoa provides free breast screening for eligible women aged between 45 and 69, and aged 70 – 74 who qualify for the screening extension. Look out for your screening invitation and book an appointment.

💗 It's okay to feel nervous

Lots of people feel nervous about the unknown and that’s completely normal! You're welcome to bring a support person to your appointments, to be with you before and after your mammogram.

⭐ Check it at any age

Even if you're not eligible for routine breast screening, it's important to know what's normal for you. If you notice a change, talk to your healthcare provider as soon as possible.

🌸 Try not to panic if something changes

Most breast changes aren't cancer, but it's still important to get them checked to be sure.

You cannot change rolls in the 3 months before a general election.

If you do want to change the roll you’re on, you can make the change online, or by filling in an enrolment form and sending it back to us. Enrolment forms are used for both brand new enrolments and updating your details.

If you’re happy with the roll you’re on, you don’t need to do anything!
