That is from Bridgette Mackie, Clinical Director here at Infection Prevention Services — and it is something we come back to again and again when we talk about AMS in aged care.

Policies matter. Documentation matters. But understanding is what changes behaviour at the bedside.

When a nurse knows why antibiotics are prescribed conservatively — not just that they should be — prescribing conversations change. Communication with GPs improves. Residents receive better, safer care.
