I have to share this impactful story from an inspiring wāhine.

She took what most people would see as defeat and absolute devastation Ella turned it into something that impacted on her journey and also on many others who’s hearts she will continue to touch and give that little glimpse of hope when they thought there wasn’t any.

💔 SU***DE DOES NOT DISCRIMINATE 💔

This is exactly why we do the mahi we do 💔💔

The heartbreaking reality is that too many people are uncomfortable having the confronting conversations. Su***de is something people often shy away from, avoid discussing or simply don’t know how to talk about.

But these are the very conversations we MUST be having.

The two young boys in this video were just 12 and 13 years old. 💔 Two young lives lost, leaving behind unimaginable grief for their whānau, friends and wider community.

May they both rest in peace. 🕊️

We cannot keep waiting until tragedy strikes before we start talking, listening and taking the emotional wellbeing of our tamariki and rangatahi seriously.

We need to create spaces where our young people feel safe to speak, where their emotions are acknowledged, where asking for help is normal and where difficult conversations are welcomed rather than avoided.

Our tamariki are never too young to be heard, supported, loved and understood.

This is why our mahi matters. Not because these conversations are easy, but because they are necessary.

Let’s stop being afraid to talk about su***de and start being more afraid of what happens when we don’t. ❤️

Last weekend one of our kaiako Tommy went up to Gisborne to follow his taonga puoro journey. He made so many connections, learnt lots of new knowledge and once again reignited the fire within to pursue his journey deep within the puoro realms.

We are always reminding ourselves of how very privileged we are to be in the spaces we are to meet beautiful people and learn what has been passed down from our ancestors.

Watch this space whānau because there is going to be a lot coming from this space so if taonga puoro connects closely to you follow our page and lookout for some exciting updates.

💜 WE ARE JUST ABOUT AT THAT TIME OF THE YEAR… 👀🏐

Our annual netball tournament has officially found its new name: THE TINAYA REIHANA NETBALL TOURNAMENT 💜

It is with immense love and pride that I finally announce that our tournament has been renamed in loving memory of our darling Tinaya Reihana. 🕊️💜

Tinaya was a daughter, sister, niece, cousin and friend to so many. She was a beautiful soul who touched the hearts of many within her whānau,friend group and wider Feilding community. If you were lucky enough to know Tinaya, you would have experienced her kind, loving, caring and cheeky personality that made her so special. 💕

We tragically lost Tinaya at the young age of just 15. In her honour, we have decided to rename our tournament to keep her memory and legacy alive, while continuing to give back to others, just as she did so generously throughout her life.

After receiving such amazing feedback from our last tournament, we’re coming back BIGGER AND BETTER THAN EVER! 🤩🏐

With THREE special awards,1 being best dressed 😉,spot prizes throughout the day, food vendors, plenty of entertainment and, of course, a whole lot of netball, this is one event you won’t want to miss! 👀

Tāne Hauora at Te Pae O Te Rangi 🙏

Tāne hauora is such an important kaupapa at Te Pae O Te Rangi, creating space for our tāne to connect, share, learn and support one another.

Recently, some of our tāne travelled to Whanganui for a tāne hauora evening and returned with such positive feedback. It was an awesome opportunity to build connections between one tāne rōpū and another, strengthen whanaungatanga and share in a kaupapa that uplifts the hauora of our tāne.

The whole evening sounded like a huge success, with taonga pūoro being a major highlight. We hope to reconnect with some of the tāne and explore opportunities to collaborate in the coming months.

A huge mihi to our Whanganui whānau for the mahi you are doing and for giving us the opportunity to experience what a healthy marae looks and feels like in a living, breathing, real-life setting at Te Ao Hou Marae.
