With the official start of Matariki 2026 beginning Monday 6th of July, here's what you can expect to see and how to find the Matariki cluster.

If you're up before sunrise, look to the east to find Tautoru. From there, follow Tautoru in a line toward the north, where you will find the Matariki star cluster. Puanga will be above Tautoru.

An easy way is to look for the bright orange Mars, which sits very close to the Matariki stars this year.

If you manage to get any photos in the coming week, be sure to send them to us!
Mānawatia a Matariki!

“You might not know this but
I’m not a man of many words
Talking has never been easy
Thankfully I have found a place to express my thoughts
Through music and songwriting
I never thought this journey would take us to places like this
Look at us we’re in a theatre
It’s crazy
Being able to create moments like tonight
Reminds me of how lucky I am
I never thought my stories could bring so many people together
Tonight you will hear that story in full the highs the lows and everything in between.”

These are the words spoken by Te Wehi at his concert last night.

Music has a huge impact in our lives offering not just entertainment but a powerful means to deal with, express, filter and overcome our emotions.

It serves as a universal language that resonates with our deepest feelings providing a sanctuary for healing and self-discovery.

🩵 Music has the ability to inspire and rally people together creating a sense of unity and purpose.

❤️ Engaging with music enhances cognitive functions and emotional intelligence. Learning to play an instrument or analyse lyrics can deepen our understanding of ourselves and our emotions.

💛 Music acts as a refuge during stressful times. It has the unique ability to soothe the soul, reduce anxiety and provide comfort. Listening to calming melodies can create a protective barrier against negative emotions. Music can be a powerful tool for emotional resilience.

🌟 Te Whiringawha Rangatahi Leadership Initiative: A Journey of Growth and Empowerment 🌟

Over the past 7 months, we have embarked on an incredible journey with our rangatahi aged 12-24 through the Te Whiringawha Rangatahi Leadership Initiative all thanks to Māhutonga. This kaupapa has been nothing short of transformative, empowering our youth through outdoor experiences that cultivate personal growth, resilience and teamwork.

Our hiking expeditions have been filled with learning and adventure where participants gained essential life skills such as:

💧 Water Purification: Understanding the importance of clean water for survival.
🧘‍♂️ Emotional Wellness: Engaging in guided conversations, writing letters to their future selves, and practicing healing through letter burning.
🔥 Fire Lighting and Shelter Building: Developing practical skills that deepen their connection to the environment.
🤝 Team Collaboration: Emphasising teamwork and leadership through various group activities.

Guided by our leadership framework—Te Whiringawha, which includes the archetypes of Leader, Learner, Leverager, and Lover—participants have explored their identities and roles within the community, enhancing their personal development and connection to Māori society.

Our diverse hikes from lush bush trails to stunning beach walks have been eye-opening for both participants and facilitators. The healing exercises such as releasing weights and letter burning have created profound growth and understanding.

We are thrilled with the success of this kaupapa and look forward to expanding our reach in the future. We invite whānau to stay tuned for upcoming opportunities to get involved!

Here are some beautiful snapshots of our adventures and the breathtaking scenery that made this experience even more rewarding. 📸✨

Ngā mihi nui to everyone who has been a part of this journey! Let's continue to grow together! 💚
