We are very excited to welcome Chatswood Retirement Village into the Promisia family today!

Chatswood is a purpose-built retirement village located in Opawa, in south-east Christchurch. It offers modern care rooms, care suites and serviced apartments with the option of assisted living, rest home and hospital level care.

We are proud to expand our Christchurch offering, which also includes Aldwins House, and provide a broader range of care options. We look forward to sharing more about Chatswood over the next few months.

Connection, confidence and independence: Ran-fit at Aldwins House

Ran-fit, our bespoke ACC-acredited exercise programme, continues to run daily at Aldwins House in Christchurch in response to its popularity. Our Aldwins residents share the meaningful ways that Ran-fit has helped them:

"I was struggling to get in and out of my chair and bed. At Ran-fit, I learned the “nose to toes” technique, and I have now regained independence. When I see people struggling to stand, I go over and teach them the “nose to toes” technique myself. It has changed my life" - Gloriana

"When I first came to Aldwins House, I could hardly stand on my own two feet. I started Ran-fit, and now I can walk to the mall, catch the bus, and it has given me back my freedom of choice" - Tony

"I suffered a stroke that affected my balance. Since joining Ran-fit, I am now walking with a low walking frame. This has given me greater independence and quality of life" - Noel

Strength, balance and a new lease on life: Ran-fit at Golden View Village

Ran-fit, Promisia’s very own ACC-approved and accredited strength and balance class is built around a common goal: helping our residents live stronger. Ran-fit runs in all of our care homes and we are very proud of the mobility, confidence and community the classes are creating.

At Golden View in Cromwell, the results speak for themselves. Our residents have recently shared some wonderful feedback:

“I had been experiencing stiffness in my neck which has made it difficult for me to move comfortably. After taking Ran-fit classes, this stiffness is now completely gone. I also took part in a golf tournament where I walked 10km recently, something I would previously have struggled to do” – Kevin

“At a recent physiotherapy review, my strength and balance had increased by 50%, which I am very proud of” – Wilson

“After taking Ran-fit classes, I am feeling a noticeable benefit in my mobility. Movement feels easier and more natural, which is aiding my Tai Chi teaching as well” – Gloria

A pianola and a huge community effort at Nelson Street

Nelson Street in Feilding is the proud owner of a new pianola! If you don’t know, a pianola can be played like a normal piano, but they also have reels, and when you press the pedals it will play the tune - no actual playing required!

The pianola has had a bit of a journey to make its way to Nelson Street, it’s fair to say. It was kindly donated by a resident’s friend, Ally. Raewyne, another friend, has worked over the last two months to arrange delivery of the pianola. Initially, she didn’t have much luck until she reached out through More FM, and the amazing people at Beds R’Us came to the rescue.

Last week, a team made up of More FM, Beds R’Us, and rugby players from the Manawatu Turbos and Feilding High School First XV arrived to deliver us the pianola and set it up in our lounge. A huge thank you to everyone who has made this possible!

Sensory movement at Golden View and Ripponburn

Every fortnight at our Golden View and Ripponburn Care Homes in Cromwell, we hold sensory movement classes, led by our lovely instructor, Marion.

These fun classes combine gentle mind and body exercises, and explore different music, objects and tactile sensations. Our residents love them!

Pony visits at Nelson Street

What a special visitor we had! Our residents were delighted to welcome Boseley the Clydesdale horse to Nelson Street in Feilding. He was such a gentle and happy boy, and there were plenty of pats and smiles all around.

We certainly worked up an appetite, so it was then off to the baking unit to make chocolate chip cookies for afternoon tea.

It’s amazing how animals can bring so much joy and brighten everyone’s day!

Mid-winter lunch at Golden View Village

Recently, Golden View Village in Cromwell held their annual mid-winter lunch. Each year, this marks a special time for friends in the village to come together over a special meal and celebrate each other’s company and our stunning Central Otago winter weather.

It was a wonderful event filled with laughter and great food!

Matariki celebrations at Aldwins House

This year, Matariki celebrations at Aldwins House in Christchurch were resident-driven, with meetings in May and June for residents to discuss how they would like to honour the holiday.

Together, the Aldwins community chose a meaningful programme that started with singing and reflection. We were privileged to then have Daniel Mataki from Purapura Whetū come in to share his knowledge of Matariki with us. After a special lunch, residents enjoyed a performance from the Maea ukelele group. Thank you to our residents and guests that made this truly a Matariki to remember!

Mānawatia a Matariki from Nelson Street!

Each year, Matariki is a special time that allows New Zealanders to give thanks, honour the present and look forward to the future with hope. The 2026 theme was ‘Matariki Herenga Waka’ or ‘Matariki for Everyone’. Our homes got right into the spirit, celebrating in fun, commemorative and inclusive ways.

Nelson Street in Feilding hosted a dinner party with residents, family and whānau. It was a lovely and truly memorable evening for our community.
