Our Craft & Connect programme has been buzzing with creativity over the past few weeks!

From beautiful handmade projects to plenty of laughter and conversation, it's been so much more than just crafting. Each week we've watched confidence grow, friendships form, and mums support one another as they share the ups and downs of parenting in a relaxed, welcoming space.

We've loved seeing wonderful mums from a range of different cultures, all coming together to build new connections here in Tairāwhiti.

Take a look at some of the amazing creations our talented participants have made so far.

Next week is our final session, and while we're sad to see this programme come to an end, we're excited to see the connections that have been made.

A huge thank you to everyone who has been part of this programme and to our partners at Te Aho a Māui | EIT for helping make it possible.

We're hopeful there will be more opportunities like this in the future… so watch this space!

A huge thank you to the wonderful ladies of the Turanganui Women's Institute for your generosity, time, and incredible talent.
Through your skilled hands and caring hearts, you have created a beautiful collection of handcrafted quilts, blankets, clothing, hats, and other lovingly made items that have been donated to Plunket for distribution throughout the Tairāwhiti community.
Each stitch, patch, and knitted row represents kindness, warmth, and support for local whānau. These handmade treasures will bring comfort and practical assistance to families and children across our region, making a real difference in their lives.
We are incredibly grateful for your ongoing commitment to our community and for sharing your talents so generously.

Craft & Connect
A creative pause for parents

This welcoming 8-week course offers young parents a relaxed, supportive space to enjoy well-deserved “me time” while exploring a range of creative projects including felted keepsakes, hand-sewn toys, card making, reusable bunting, beginner crochet, simple embroidery, handmade journals, and the option to experiment with watercolours, with some materials provided and others required.
Alongside creativity, you’ll gain practical parenting support around nutrition, sleep, toileting, dental care (including a free dental pack), and preparing healthy seasonal first foods, while sharing stories, building connections, and celebrating your parenting journey through creativity, care, and community.
Date: 6 May – 24 June (8 weeks)
Day/Time: Wednesdays, 9.30am – 12.30pm
