You have to check out the Chopper and Frank books if you haven't already! They are a huge hit with kids, and buying them directly supports the Eastland Helicopter Rescue Trust and their life-saving work in our region. We encourage other local businesses to join in and support this wonderful cause.

A huge thank you to Tessa at WorkAble who has kindly committed to buying books every month in the lead up to Christmas to donate to the community! Thank you Tessa!!

Spring Safety & Occupational Health

The weather is finally warming up, and while sunshine makes the workday a lot brighter, rising temperatures bring unique health and safety challenges for outdoor and active workers. Spring is the ideal time to refresh our safety habits before the intense heat of summer hits.

Key Spring Hazards to Watch For

Hydration Needs: Warmer air sneaks up on you. Keep fresh drinking water close and sip regularly before you feel thirsty.

UV Exposure: Spring sun can be surprisingly strong. Apply broad-spectrum sunscreen and wear UV-rated protective gear, even on cooler, partly cloudy days.

Seasonal Allergies: Pollen can impact focus and breathing. Ensure PPE includes appropriate dust or particle masks when working in high-pollen environments.

Fatigue & Acclimatisation: Your body takes time to adjust to sudden temperature shifts. Pace strenuous physical tasks and take advantage of shaded break areas.

Let’s look out for one another and keep our teams safe, healthy, and energised as we transition into the new season. What steps is your workplace taking to prepare for warmer weather?

Another team introduction! ☀️

Meet Sarah, one of our superstar Certified Drug Testers here at WorkAble.

Sarah is an absolute early bird—she has no problem kicking off her day as early as 4:30 AM to ensure she is onsite and ready at a time that works best for our clients. Since joining the WorkAble family earlier this year, her dedication and positive energy have made her an incredible asset to our team.

When she's not on-site, Sarah keeps busy juggling a love for various sports, soaking up the Gisborne sun, and being a proud mum to her two sons.

We are so lucky to have you on our team Sarah!

Who are the people behind WorkAble Occupational Health?

Over the next few weeks, we’re excited to introduce you to the team that makes WorkAble what it is. To start, here’s a little about me — Tessa Allan, Director and Founder of WorkAble.

I started WorkAble in 2019 after seeing a real need in the Gisborne region for practical, people‑focused workplace health services. What began as just me has grown into a team of 12 amazing clinicians and support staff across the North Island.

This year has been a big milestone for us — after expanding into Hawkes Bay last year, we now have certified drug testers in Waikato, Rotorua, Manawatū and Wellington, allowing us to support even more workplaces with fast, reliable onsite testing.

On a personal note, I’m married to Kurt, and we have three kids — Charlie, Oscar and Daisy. They’re a huge part of why I’m passionate about building safer, healthier workplaces for our communities. I’m incredibly proud of how far WorkAble has come and the team behind it.

I can’t wait to introduce you to the rest of the crew over the coming weeks.
