Willow is one of those fascinating plants where traditional herbal knowledge and modern science meet. 🌿
For centuries, herbalists have worked with willow for pain and inflammation. Today, we understand much more about the compounds within the plant - including salicin and its connection to the development of aspirin.
But unlike looking at one isolated compound, whole-plant herbalism explores the many different constituents within willow and how they work together.
Its value extends beyond herbal medicine too. Willow has been used to stabilise riverbanks, support ecosystems and help filter water, making it an incredibly versatile plant.
It’s a beautiful example of how much there is to discover about the plants growing right around us. 🌿
At our upcoming Willow Workshop in Glenorchy, we’ll explore the traditional knowledge, modern science and practical uses of willow - before heading out to forage and work with the plant ourselves.
