Reflections from the PMA 30th Anniversary Conference 💡🌺
Last week, our Clinic Lead, Malae Koria, attended the Pasifika Medical Association Group 30th Anniversary Conference, where the theme “The Pathway to Leadership is Service” was woven throughout every session.
A key takeaway was the strength of Pacific leadership across generations and the reminder that leadership is less about title and more about service, relationships and creating opportunities for others.
The discussions on Pacific-led research, including approaches such as Talanoa and Fa’afaletui, reinforced the importance of Pacific communities leading conversations about our own futures. Equally inspiring were stories of integrated, people-centred care, where health, education and social services work together as one village around families.
Powerful conversations on rheumatic heart disease highlighted the importance of lived experience, with the message “Nothing for us without us” standing out as a call to ensure communities are partners in creating solutions.
Malae returned inspired by the knowledge, innovation and commitment across the Pacific health sector and grateful for the opportunity to strengthen connections with leaders, clinicians and changemakers from across the region.
Congratulations to the Pasifika Medical Association on 30 years of service and impact across the Pacific. 🤎
