This isnβt an easy post to share, but itβs an important one. Maria is part of our Serenity family, and as she steps into her own healing journey, weβre standing beside her as a community.
This Thursday, 29 January, is Mariaβs last day with us before she goes on leave for breast cancer surgery the following day and the recovery journey ahead.
Maria came to Aotearoa from Spain to follow a calling. To learn MΔori healing, to support others, and to build a life rooted in care. Many of you know her through her work here. What you may not know is how much she has quietly carried.
Last year, Maria went through uterine cancer, surgery, visa challenges, and periods without income. She kept showing up. She kept working. Because supporting others is what grounds her.
Now she is facing breast cancer surgery followed by radiotherapy. As a hands-on massage therapist, this means she wonβt be able to work for several weeks while her body heals.
Maria is on a work visa, doesnβt qualify for government support, and doesnβt have family here in New Zealand to lean on. Right now, she needs support simply to cover rent and basic living costs, so she can focus on healing without added stress.
A Givealittle page has been set up to support her through this time.
If youβre able to give, even a little, it will help more than you know.
If you canβt, sharing this post or sending love her way still matters.
