2026 so far…

We competed as a double at Hyrox in Auckland, and we finally got to experience what our patients experience. Hot, hard, challenging but rewarding.

Sports + Exercise Podiatry Australasia (Sports exercise podiatry Australasia) put on a great conference in Noosa. Serena and Wendy took so many pearls that they implement into the clinic today.

Noosa: we tried on the ASICS New Zealand superblast and headed out for a walk/run

Bared Footwear put on a cocktail party and we loved socialising with our Aussie pod friends

We were not done with one hyrox, so we flew to Sydney and did another double race, and topped it off with a solo race.

PodiatryNZ put on the national conference in Wellington and had fantastic presenters

Is your child complaining of heel pain?

It could be Sever’s disease (calcaneal apophysitis) — a common cause of heel pain in active kids, usually between 8–14 years old. (And often common in football/rugby playing kids)

What is it?

Sever’s disease isn’t actually a disease! It’s irritation of the growth plate at the back of the heel, often during growth spurts.

Common signs:
✅ Heel pain during or after sport
✅ Pain with running and jumping
✅ Tenderness at the back of the heel
✅ Limping or avoiding activities

Why does it happen?

Growing bones + tight muscles + foot pronation can put extra stress through the heel / growth plate.

What can help?

✔️ Supportive footwear
✔️ Calf stretching
✔️ Orthotics/insoles if needed

The good news
Sever’s disease is temporary and usually improves as growth finishes — but the right advice can help kids stay active and in sport and comfortable!

👣 If heel pain is affecting your child’s sport or daily life, a podiatrist can help.

PRESEASON PREHAB: BUILD YOUR FOUNDATION BEFORE YOU COMPETE
Preseason isn’t just about getting fit — it’s about preparing your body to stay strong, resilient, and ready for the demands of your sport.
1. Proprioception — Your Body’s GPS Sharpen balance and control with simple drills like single‑leg holds, eyes‑closed balance, or light hop‑and‑land work.
2. Single‑Limb Strength — Stability & Symmetry Most athletic movements happen off one leg, so build strength and support with single‑leg calf raises, hinge variations, or split‑stance squats.
3. Sport‑Specific Prep — Train for What You Play Rehearse the movements your sport demands: accelerating, stopping, changing direction, landing well, and conditioning at game‑like intensity.
If you’ve got any niggles or minor injuries, book in to see us — don’t let something small turn into something bigger.
