He ao mokopuna ✨👶🏽 A world of discovery!

There is something very special about seeing the world through the eyes of our pēpi and nohinohi. This week, there were many magical moments to pause and notice as they explored our new tamariki furniture, taonga, and spaces 🤩

All taonga were carefully chosen from our insights, early years’ experience, the whānau voice & through a te ao Māori perspective to invite curiosity, creativity and play ✨ we wish to mihi the reach & generosity of Royston Health Trust who’s work has enabled Mamia to enliven our kaupapa innovation & while we grow relationships, too! We are so grateful and the photos express the appreciation of our tamariki,
E pari kau ana ngā tai o mihi ki a koutou💗

And what a joy to watch them discover their own reflections! 👀🪞✨ Wairua moments we can quietly observe but not disturb - so that curious faces can meet curious faces, little smiles can appear, and little hands reach out to touch the pēpi looking back at them… ko wai koe?! 👀💕

We are also enjoyed a morning of Guess Who❓reo Māori, a pēpi music and kori session with Miriam 🎶🧣🪕, and we had dental therapist Deborah Papuni in the whare to kōrero with us about caring for our pēpi’s teeth and oral health from birth 🦷💛 Deb will be back again next month, September 17th at 10:30am.

And as always, we would love to see you! Whether you are new or you’ve been planning a next-visit there is plenty of space to relax, connect, learn and spend time together here🌿

Here is our week ahead:
🌱 Mane – Kori Tinana 10:30am & Tākuta Tamaiti 12–2pm

☀️Tūrei – Taonga Tuku Iho 10:30–11:30am

🌱 Wenerei – Free flow 10:30am: relaxed and easy connection and kōrero, māmā with māmā 🙂

☀️Taite – Ūkaipō 10:30am

Whether it’s a kōrero over kai, a chance to try something new, time to watch our pēpi play, or simply a warm and welcoming space to be — naumai, haere mai! 💛

Hey māmā - is your whare fire-safe?

❄️Winter can mean extra heaters, electric blankets, drying clothes inside, and an increased load on wall plugs and multi-plugs. All of these things can also increase the risks of house fires🔥🏠, but not if you know and can minimise the risks 😉🧯.

Tomorrow at 12:45pm we have Matua Mahea👩🏼‍🚒 🚒 coming to share fire safety tips, and how to make an escape plan from your whare if you need to get your whānau out in a hurry.

Naumai e te whānau, join us for the day with kori tinana at 10:30am ☀️

Brrrr - ko mā ana ngā tito o Kahurānaki.. kua tae mai a Hinetakurua! ❄️

We’ve all found joy in seeing the snow this week, as many of the maunga surrounding us have been glistening 🏔️

On Wednesday after our morning karakia, Mamia kaimahi bundled up into the van to capture our own views & snaps, with inner-child glee & ‘ohhs n ahhs’, before getting into our day 🫶🏼

Although the mornings have been brisk & fresh, we have kept our whare warm with lots of active movement, hononga & laughter aplenty, and of course, the hearty stews & māmā-made rewana that nourished the soul 🍲🍞

Whether we’ve been stretching, brain gyming, tension releasing or puku swaying – kori tinana has been a hit this week! Even a full-term puku enjoyed sweeping through te taha wāhine me te taha tāne, before pēpi arrived a few days later into waiting arms and a loving whānau 🧡

We know that schedules are full & whānau wellness is top priority, but if you can visit, do – because we see wellbeing flourish in wāhine, māmā & pēpi who come often.. confidence, connection, happiness & vitality are just a few gems 🌱

See our week ahead & remember that magic happens all throughout the day..

☀️ Mane - 10:30am: Kori Tinana – movement for all body types. 12-2pm: Tākuta Tamaiti – conversations with specialist health practitioners regarding a tamaiti in your care.

☀️ Tūrei - 10:30am: Taonga Tuku Iho – fun & inclusive reo for all levels.

☀️ Wenerei - 10:30am: Kōpū Session 4 – pregnancy, birth & early parenting.

☀️ Taite - 10:30am: Kori Tinana – movement to meet the needs of the morning. 12.30pm: Kaihāpai – fire safety & planning for your home & whānau *come early to sketch the layout of your whare*

Join us & let us know what you’d like to see and do as we look towards Spring - naumai haere mai, we’d love to see you!

Our heartfelt condolences to Audrey and the whānau upon the passing of Te Maari. We send you all our aroha and acknowledge an amazing wahine and leader. With humble gratitude, we thank you for sharing Te Maari with us all.

Te Maari, from the moment I met you, sent over to ask you and Audrey for my first nursing job, you blew me away. A perceptive, regal and formidable force - I didn't know whether to giggle from nerves or shudder in my boots, hahaha.

I was so excited and proud to be given a job at Te Kupenga Hauora-Ahuriri and join such hard-working passionate people - kuia mā koro mā, MWWL, nurses, kaimahi, the Ahuriri whānau and community. I was proud to be a Tamariki Ora nurse representing TKH-A!

Thank you, Te Maari - kōrua tahi, ko Audrey. Courageous innovation and ground-breaking achievements. TKH-A is steadfast. Your leadership and grounding in kaupapa Māori community hauora was exemplary: whānau and tikanga first, loyalty and high professional standards. Turn up. Show up. Stand up. We had good teachings, growlings and laughs. Always great learning and experiences. Thank you for coming to Mamia and sharing your kōrero. I humbly hope we honour your leadership and example as it is of no surprise many of our facets are attributed to you, Audrey, Nanny Kahu and others. I love you, Te Maari. Nō mātau te hōnore - your light and legacy shines on.

Have a good rest, sunbathing somewhere on the sparkling shores of Kiwa, your beautiful smile and heart of gold.

Moe mai rā, e te Mareikura.

“It’s about tamariki and community… our children are our future”.

Nigel, you always said that. Over & over. Every time we’d see you. A great big generous caring heart. A champion of babies & children. For their mums & for young parents. Making things happen for tamariki & māmā, for their future. For those in hardship. A home. A vision for community wellbeing & prosperity.

To a most pono man, you gave us so much time, wisdom & support. Words of encouragement & advice. A laugh. Showing up when we didn’t realise we needed to see you. Always humbly in the background. Hāngi after hāngi. Marae, water, sustainable energy, relationships, workforce development… Future proofing. Mokopuna.

On behalf of the whānau, marae & Mamia - thank you, we love you & we will miss you.

To your whānau, our heartfelt condolences. To your friends & colleagues, our deepest sympathies.

Your smile will shine on through our whare Mamia. An amazing man. Moe mai rā, Nigel. Ka kite anō, bro. Fa’afetai To’osavili Nigel Bickle.

Auē te wā kāinga, e kore he wāhi i pēnei te pai.

He rangi mokopuna❄️☀️A fine winters day!

There is no better whakatauki for this full-moon🌕 week at Mamia, with thick morning frosts soon melting into blue skies and warm sunny days🏔️🌅

And with Tamanuiterā calling 🌞‘haere mai ki waho!’, our mokopuna, māmā and kaimahi were happy to oblige - finding restful spots in the sun, or heading out onto the deck to move, play, learn, race, haka and enjoy it all☀️🧘🏽‍♀️🎶🚚

We always appreciate moments with māmā to watch their pēpi & nohinohi play, and this week there was so much to notice and learn: littlies meeting new stages, expressing new interests and mastering new skills. Look at how these curious and creative tama-Ariki are testing out our new taonga from Hohepa… 🛻✈️🚁🛒🦆

Our new August Wātaka is included below, and here is our week ahead:

☀️Mane - 10:30am: Kori Tinana gentle breath and movement, & 12-2pm: Tākuta Tamaiti

Kia ora rā! 🫶🏼

We’ve been touched by the kiss of frost this week, but when Tamanuiterā has shown up to soften the ice and draw us out, we have spilled gratefully onto the deck and pocketed some warm moments, such as..

☀️ Making new connections that flourished over a cuppa on the steps ☕️

☀️ Bean bag rests which replenished some happy learners ⚖️

☀️ An attentive audience during our Kaihāpai session 🎆

☀️ And Kori Tinana wellbeing offered in three ways.. with hapū māmā breathwork on the grass 🌱 with wāhine grounding through movement after art 🖼️ and with tamariki.. stretching, bending, rolling! 🧘🏽‍♂️🤸🏽‍♂️

Growth and development is a gem that never stops shining 💎 and we are privileged to see this with each visit made. Through an expanding puku; a pēpi who rolls, and stands, and steps.. and a wahine who visits, returns and embraces 🫶🏼

🏡The Mamia kāinga is open Monday to Thursday, from 9.30am - and we wrap around the wellbeing, growth & development of the whānau.. starting with you, your experience and your tamaiti.

If you are pregnant, our Kōpū Antenatal (birth and early parenting) classes are each Wednesday - it’s not too late! 💛

Join us this week for an Ara offering, or just to visit and connect, we’ll have on:

🎆 Mane: Kori Tinana - 10:30am & Tākuta Tamaiti - 12-2pm
