Exercise Progression: The S.A.I.D. Principle
The SAID principle (Specific Adaptations to Imposed Demands) guides how the body adapts to exercise.
As load and intensity are increased the body will adapt). This means beginning with very gentle, low-load
movements and gradually progressing toward functional tasks.
Stages of Progression
1. Isometric Activation – gentle holds to “find” muscles (e.g., quadricep contraction, chin tucks for
deep neck flexors).
2. Controlled Mobility – supported range of motion (e.g., cat–cow, pendulum arm swings).
3. Dynamic Strength – low-load movement (e.g., supported heel raises, wall squats, use of bands or
weights).
4. Endurance & Postural Training – sustained holds or repeated movements (e.g., wall sits,
walking).
5. Functional Integration – whole-body, task-specific movement (e.g., sit-to-stand, step-ups, balance
drills).
By following this progression, we can help clients safely restore function while reinforcing the
neuromuscular reset achieved during Bowen sessions.

If you have central lower back discomfort and you have been recommended the plate exercise by me. Do 4 times each side daily for the first 4 days.
I will be putting up more exercises that are recommended following Bowen Therapy and adding the youtube link to my website.

Neck & Shoulder Region - After your Bowen Therapy session - supporting the change.
Chin Tuck (Postural Reset)
• How: Sit or stand tall. Gently draw the chin in, lengthening the back of the neck without tilting the
head up or down. Hold 5–10 seconds. Repeat 5–10 times.
• Why: Corrects forward head posture, activates deep neck flexors, reduces strain in the cervical
region.
• Tip: Prescribed after upper back/neck procedures to reinforce postural realignment.

The Role of Exercise in Bowen Therapy
Therapeutic exercise complements Bowen in several keyways:
• Supports fascial release by maintaining tissue length and mobility.
• Improves postural balance by re-educating muscles and joints.
• Builds resilience through gentle strengthening and endurance work.
• Promotes self-management and client empowerment between sessions.
• Reinforces muscle firing patterns and neuromuscular control
