Hau, since being in Waihopai 2025, I have caught covid who knows what strain, and now the flu again unknown strain... suffice its either A or B. Hurts the head, the bones and achy joints...
Im going to put it down to climatizing as I came from the area near te Urewera, the Bountiful Bay of Plenty, the beautiful valley of Murupara and geothermic healing wonders of Waiariki within Te Puku o Te Ika ā Māui. I spent half of my entire lifetime, I very seldom got sick with just two bouts of hayfever, spring and autumn and that was about it.
Hika... so whats so different about Waihopai? The cold? Beats me.
My tohunga said virus' came from filth. Very blunt korero but it makes sense when you consider that the virus can live outside a host for quite a while, suspended in the air and also active on surfaces. Simply washing hands, linens etc and wiping surfaces reduces viral load end of 'blunt' story.
So when we catch a flu, the advice is drink plenty fluids and rest, take panadol or ibuprophen for fever etc. Generic
Ok but - there are age old "over-the-kitchen" remedies that no ones talking about that everyone should know about. Instead of panadol and Ibuprophen.

I wanna share two particular Teas you can infuse separately or add together... - One teaspoon of plant matter to infuser (a teabag) per cup
*Manuka tea blends - (Manuka tastes nice peppermint - rosehips: anti-inflammatory, antibacterial, antiviral, antifungal and antiseptic properties. Tastes typical of a herbal tea with a fruity punch. But if you dont have Manuka dont fret,
*Dried oregano - anti-inflammatory, antibacterial, and antifungal properties. Also has vitamins A, C, E, and K, along with minerals like iron, calcium, and magnesium. Depending on where you buy it, Four Square, Countdown or Pak n Save it costs between $1 - $5 for about 10gm. Thats more than enough for 20 cups of tea.
It tastes terrible like miro berries, distinct flavor reminiscent of turpentine and spice, rich in antioxidants like carvacrol and thymol, have. The key korero is its amazing anti-inflammatory properties, I use only "AS REQUIRED" instead of panadol or ibuprophen. Not all that bad, it is a hearty pizza topping. And, no it does not heal the flu. This is not one of those claims. But it does actively reduce the fever aspect of the flu, removes the chills, brain fog, the body aches and the twitches, the headaches. expelling that inflammation fluid through your bladder. Allows our body to relax as it finds rhythm, drink, move and rest, work at the things you need to do (even when its just to get up and eat) and rest when energy feels low..
Once fever is over drink what you want, vit C loaded as an idea, but beware too much of anything can have an opposing effect.
Eat healthy and rest well.
Once your over the worst - best advice I ever heard after any parasitic infection was wash your hands, wipe down surfaces and/ or wash bedding,
