One of the rewarding parts of this mahi is when whānau call on you.
My sister rang last minute, saying shes starting to limp, she walked in, her tianna literally showing the big year she has had already...

It's these last-minute, on-the-spot bodywork sessions that bring me back to the realness and FUN of the mahi. Rolling the duvet out on the floor, creating a space, and trying to provide some relief for someone you care about is incredibly rewarding. Business is fun only to a certain point.

No fancy clinic. No schedule. No business. Just whānau helping whānau.

The payment? A mince and cheese pie....To be fair, it was totally worth it. 😂

We’ll be offering 20-minute sessions — whether that’s:
💆🏽‍♀️ A relaxing hair wash
💆🏽 A basic body alignment / bodywork session

First come, first serve — pop your name down on arrival and we’ll work through everyone as best we can 🌞

Tight shoulders.
Heavy chest.

Exhaustion.
Restlessness.
Overthinking.

Your tinana carries your story.

This is why mirimiri and romiromi is more than “massage” to me. It is listening to the body, allowing space for release, and helping restore balance between wairua, hinengaro, and tinana.

Sometimes healing comes through touch.
Sometimes through movement.

T H E H A R D P A R T S 💚🌿

One thing I’ve learnt building PIKO BU…the beautiful things people see are only a small part of the story.

Behind every balm, every mirimiri session, every market stall, every parcel sent out — there’s a whole lot of unseen mahi happening quietly in the background.

The late-night ordering.
The harvesting.
The learning curves.
The resetting again when it gets tough.

Some days flow with ease, creativity, and excitement.
Other days ask for resilience, patience, grounding, and trust in the process. But that’s all part of building something real, something intentional, something made with heart.

This journey is very hands-on and personal. Every balm is made, poured, labelled, packed, and created by me with aroha here in Kaikōura. 🌿

PIKO BU Kaikōura has never been about “quick success.” (even if at times I thought that would be nice 😉)
It’s been about creating something meaningful — slowly, authentically, and in alignment with the people and kaupapa behind it.

And truthfully, I’m proud of how far this little dream has come already.
Not because it’s perfect, but because it continues to grow through every season.

So thank you for being here.
For supporting local.
For supporting handmade.
For supporting a vision built from passion, healing, culture, and connection.
