The Lycopodium Mind – Power Outside, Doubt Within

Sharp intellect.
Commanding exterior.
Silent insecurity.

Lycopodium presents a fascinating duality — outward authority masking deep lack of confidence. Fear of public appearance, dread of new responsibilities, anxiety about failure… yet in position, they may become haughty, domineering, and exacting.

Mental fatigue from exertion.
Errors in speech and writing.
Irritability on waking.
Marked aggravation from 4 PM to 8 PM.

They fear solitude — yet cannot tolerate company.
They fear failure — yet strive for intellectual superiority.

This is the mind of Lycopodium:
ambitious, analytical, easily exhausted, and inwardly uncertain.

Study the contradiction.
Recognize the timing.
Individualize the remedy.

Over the years I’ve found there are a handful of remedies that cover most of the everyday bumps and flus of family life.

Aconite for when something comes on suddenly, Shock to the body fright, that “it hit out of nowhere” fever, cold, sudden flu after exposure to cold dry wind.

Arnica for falls, knocks, bruised bodies. Aching and sore. Tooth aches.

Belladonna for those hot, red, throbbing fevers that rise fast.

Chamomilla for pain that feels unbearable, Especially teething.

Ferrum phos for the very beginning of inflammation, when it’s just starting to simmer.

Gelsemium for the heavy, droopy, wiped-out flu or nervous anticipation.

Hepar sulph when everything feels hypersensitive and splintery. Oozing puss that is wh**ey yellow- its the internal 'mop'

Mercurius for red, swollen throats and inflamed gums. Infection states and putrid breath.

Nux vomica for overdoing it food, stress, late nights. Hangover remedy.

Pulsatilla for the clingy, weepy colds that just want fresh air and comfort.

Nothing complicated. Just a small, steady toolkit that seems to meet most of life’s little moments as they come.

A month after getting her ears pierced, my girl woke up a little off.

She’s not one to avoid school, but yesterday she stayed home. Sharp tummy pain in the morning, a few good poos by lunchtime, and just like that her body had cleared what it needed to.

By afternoon she was brighter, but something else was brewing.
Her left ear had become red and swollen. Milky green pus. When i moved the earring it oozed freely, and she pulled away the moment I touched, that deep, intolerable, pinching pain. At the same time, a small stye appeared in the left corner of her eye. A little run down. A little chilled. Wanting to be left alone on the couch with her shows.

It’s always fascinating to watch how the body expresses itself when vitality dips and how a small wound becomes a channel for elimination. Suppuration isn’t the enemy, it’s movement. It’s the body localising and pushing out what it doesn’t want to keep.
The picture was clear: heightened sensitivity, rapid pus formation after minor injury, chilly yet inflamed tissue, irritability from pain. A classic suppurative state.

I’m always reminded in these moments how beautifully intelligent the body is.

When we read the signs instead of silencing them, the remedy often reveals itself quietly in the totality.
Today we support. We observe. We allow the body to finish what it has started.

Healing is rarely dramatic, it’s often just a gentle redirection back to balance.

Teeth!
My son has a very sore tooth at the moment, A canine that wasn’t quite ready to come out but was hanging on by a thread. He has a high pain tolerance, but as you can imagine, a loose canine gets in the way of everything.

Last night he was really upset and couldn’t sleep. The sensitivity was intense, so I went straight back to my trusted baby teething remedy.... Chamomilla. I gave a dose along with some Arnica for the soreness and within a short time there were no more tears… and he drifted straight off to sleep.

This is why I love keeping a small collection of polycrest remedies at home. They’re incredibly practical for acute situations and cover so many common ailments.

If you’d like a list of the core remedies I keep on hand, let me know.
