👶 Paracetamol or Ibuprofen—what’s the difference?

Both can help relieve pain and make an uncomfortable child feel better, but they work slightly differently.

🔵 Paracetamol can help with:

• Headaches
• Sore throats
• Earache
• Tooth or teething pain
• Aches and pains
• Discomfort caused by a fever

🟠 Ibuprofen can help with:

• Pain and fever
• Inflammation, redness or swelling
• Sprains, strains and injuries
• Muscle aches
• Tooth or teething pain
• Earache

✅ Always use the correct dose for your child’s weight and the strength shown on the bottle. Liquid medicines come in different strengths, so never guess the dose.

Pēpi under 3 months old who are unwell or have a fever should be assessed urgently by a healthcare professional.

🤧 There seems to be a lot going around at the moment!

If you or your children are feeling unwell and you’re unsure what might be causing it, come and see us at K-Town Pharmacy.

We have combined testing kits available to purchase that can test for:

🦠 COVID-19
🦠 Influenza A
🦠 Influenza B
🦠 RSV

We can also provide strep throat testing in the pharmacy and check your child’s temperature.

Symptoms from these infections can be very similar, so testing may help you better understand what is causing the illness and what to do next. Our pharmacy team can also advise you about symptom relief and whether you or your child should see a doctor.

Please seek urgent medical help if your child is struggling to breathe, difficult to wake, not drinking, becoming dehydrated, has a concerning rash or appears very unwell. Pēpi under 3 months old with a fever need an urgent medical assessment.

All four viruses can cause similar symptoms, including coughing, fever, sore throat, headaches, body aches, tiredness and a runny or blocked nose. This convenient test uses a single nasal swab, helping you identify the likely cause and take the right precautions.
