I think my dogs might be better at mindfulness than most humans 🐾✨

They notice every leaf.
They stop to sniff flowers.
They find joy in sunshine.
They rest when they are tired.
And they never rush the walk just to get to the destination.

The dogs are the teachers sometimes.

(Also… watch until the end so you see where they led me 🥹✨)

If your nervous system has been needing a softer pace lately too, that is one of the reasons I love Reiki so much. It is a chance to pause, breathe and reconnect with yourself again.

Sometimes, when we finally stop, our body doesn’t immediately go, “Ahhh, lovely, let’s relax.”

Sometimes it says…

“Oh. We’re stopping now? Are we sure? Is there something I should be doing? What about that thing I forgot? Why is my jaw still tight? Why am I thinking about 58 random things?”

If this happens to you, please know you’re not doing anything wrong. ❤️

When you’ve been stressed, busy, overwhelmed or running on high alert for a long time, relaxation can feel unfamiliar at first. Your nervous system may need a little time to realise it’s safe to soften.

So yesterday I did something slightly unhinged... 😂

I rocked up to a menopause support group catch-up at Redwoods Café in Kerikeri, ordered my coffee - and then got out an ear model, a metal probe, and a packet of tiny seeds.

I had a Batiste kind of week recently.

You know the kind: where you feel overworked, overwhelmed and like your time is barely your own.

The kind where even the basics feel like another thing on the list.

The kind where washing your hair somehow becomes too much… so you reach for the dry shampoo and keep going.

If that is you too, here are a few simple things you can do to feel a little more balanced, grounded, and back in your body again.

🌿 Stand barefoot on the grass for 10 minutes.
Let your body remember that the earth is still there, holding you.

🎶 Put on 432 Hz music on YouTube.
Let it play quietly while you work, rest, tidy up or make dinner.

☕ Have a cup of tea or coffee with your pet beside you.
No phone. No scrolling. Just cuddles, breathing, and being together.

☀️ If the sun is gentle, stand outside for 5 minutes in the morning or evening.
Let the light touch your face and take a few slow breaths.

🌸 Put one hand on your heart and one hand on your belly.
Breathe in slowly. Breathe out even slower. Do this for a minute or two.

🚶‍♀️ Go for a slow walk, even just around the garden or down the road.
No need to make it a ‘proper’ walk. Let it be a nervous system walk.

💧 Drink a big glass of water.
Overwhelm feels worse when your body is running on empty.

🛁 Have a shower and imagine the day washing off you.
No fancy ritual needed. Just let the water help you reset.

🕯️ Light a candle or open a window.
A tiny change in your environment can shift the energy more than you think.

📝 Write down the three things that feel loudest in your mind.
Getting them out of your head and onto paper can make them feel less tangled.

🌬️ Try this simple breath: inhale for 4, exhale for 6.
Longer exhales tell your body it is safe to soften.

And when you do have a little more time, Reiki can be such a beautiful way to come back to yourself.

I was away in Auckland this week for work, and while I was looking through my handbag, I found one of my dogs’ favourite balls from our beach trip at the weekend. 🐾

It made me smile so much! 🥰

There I was, in the middle of a busy few days, with all the usual grown-up things in my bag… and then this little dog ball appeared and took me straight back to the beach.

The dogs running around. The sound of the waves. The fresh air. That feeling of living in such a beautiful part of the world.

It was such a small thing, but it gave me this lovely rush of gratitude. Not in a forced “I must write down ten things I am grateful for” kind of way, but in a real, heart-softening way. 🥰

That is what I love about glimmers. They are tiny moments that catch you by surprise and add a little spark of joy to your day. And sometimes that's enough to bring you back to yourself. 💫

So today, I am grateful for beach walks, happy dogs, sandy little reminders in my handbag, and the life I have created here in Northland. 🙏

Maybe your glimmer today is something just as small. A flower in the garden, a warm cup of tea, the light through the window, a message from someone you love or a quiet moment where your shoulders finally drop. 🌺

Notice it, and let yourself enjoy it. Because tiny moments count too. 💖

Somewhere along the way, many of us learned to treat rest like something we have to earn.

Like we are only allowed to slow down once everything is done.
Once everyone else is taken care of.
Once we have pushed ourselves to exhaustion.

But your nervous system needs moments like this before burnout, not after.

Fresh air. 💨
Moving water. 🌊
Barely any noise except birds and wagging tails. 🐦‍⬛🐾
A reminder that life is meant to be felt, not just rushed through. 💖

Today’s prescription: less urgency, more breathing space. 🌿
