Stop. This is probably the most common thing I see in the high performers I work with.
Does this sound like you? You're good at pushing, good at getting things done, and good at being the person everyone relies on. But somewhere along the way, stopping starts to feel like falling behind - so you keep going.
Until the energy drops. The patience disappears, sleep suffers, and eventually, performance does too. Here's the truth, and the way forward - sometimes you just need to hear it from someone else:
Recovery isn't the opposite of high performance; it's what makes high performance sustainable. Often the smartest thing you can do is stop long enough to come back stronger.
Three ways to build recovery into your life that you can start right now:
1) Build micro-breaks into your day - take a few minutes to stretch between meetings, go for a 10-minute walk around the block at lunch (yes, actually take your lunch break)
2) Set boundaries around work - decide when you're done checking work emails in the evening and on weekends, and stick to it!
3) Book a mini-break this month - it might be half a day to get out into nature, a morning with no agenda, or a long weekend to reconnect with your family.
Let me know how you get on,
Coach Pete
