Great to attend the West Auckland Chamber of Commerce networking event and have the opportunity to introduce myself to members of our local business community. One of the highlights was chatting with Simon Bridges, who asked me for my thoughts on helping teenagers manage their phone use.

My answer?

Before we focus on the phones in our teenagers' hands, we need to take a closer look at the phones in ours.

As adults, we are the most powerful influencers in our children's lives. They notice when we scroll through dinner, check notifications during conversations, or reach for our phones the moment there's a quiet moment.

The reality is that healthy digital habits start with us.

If we want our young people to have a balanced relationship with technology, we need to model what that looks like.

A great reminder for all of us that leadership starts at home.

The conversation you need to have.
The decision you've been avoiding.
The thing you know you should do.

Often, it's not the challenge itself that creates anxiety - it's putting it off.

If you know the next step, take it. Send the email. Make the call. Start the task.

And if you're not sure what the next step is, ask for help. A fresh perspective can create the clarity you need. Action creates momentum. Momentum creates clarity.

I’ve said this before, and I’ll keep saying it because it matters (and I need to keep hearing it myself!!) - your day starts the night before.

A little planning ahead can mean less stress, calmer mornings, lower cortisol, and more patience and presence with your kids and the people around you.

You may think this has little to do with your health, but the small things done consistently are often the things that change your overall health the most.

Now stop scrolling and get yourself organised for tomorrow - and thank me in the morning ;)

So much of health and fitness is built in the moments between workouts. Confidence. Consistency. Feeling supported instead of pressured. Creating habits that work for your real life - not just for a few weeks.

I heard recently that the first 4 minutes after you walk through your front door sets the tone for everything that follow:

Your energy.
Your presence.
Your family.
Your nervous system.

And honestly… it made me think. So this Friday, before the weekend rush begins, choose to switch off instead of staying “on.”

More barefoot beach walks.
More moments like this.
More presence over productivity.

Because high performance means nothing if you never truly come home. TGIF!
