A very HAPPY BIRTHDAY to True Proactive founder, Dr Clive Price!

Without you, there would be people who may never have taken that first step to screen, important conversations that may never have happened, and bowel cancers that may not have been found as early as they were. That’s a pretty incredible impact to have.

And all of this in just six short months. Look at how much you’ve already achieved! We can’t wait to see where True Proactive is this time next year.

From all of us at the True Proactive team, we’re incredibly grateful for everything you’ve created and continue to do to make proactive screening more accessible.

We all love being part of what you’ve built and helping give more kiwis the opportunity to take control of their health and be proactive.

Have an amazing rest of your day!!

Join us in wishing Clive a happy birthday in the comments below 🎉🙏

Another step forward for bowel cancer screening in New Zealand.

The bowel cancer screening age is now being lowered from 58 to 56, making another 200,000 New Zealanders eligible for free at home screening.
Bowel Cancer New Zealand says the change is expected to prevent more than 600 bowel cancers and 500 deaths over the next 25 years.

What you need to know:

→ Aged 56–74? The National Bowel Screening Programme is free for eligible New Zealanders, with the change to age 56 being rolled out region by region
→ Have symptoms? Don’t wait for a screening kit. Talk to your GP. There is now a separate FIT for Symptomatic pathway available through the healthcare system for people with bowel cancer symptoms
→ Not eligible and don’t have symptoms? If you want to screen proactively, private FIT screening is also an option

And if a National Bowel Screening Programme kit arrives in your letterbox, do it. As Bowel Cancer New Zealand says, it can’t help if it’s sitting in a drawer.

Every step that gives more New Zealanders access to screening and the opportunity for earlier detection matters.

3x things Doctor Clive thinks every New Zealander should know

1. Just because someone doesn’t have symptoms, does not mean they don’t have bowel cancer

2. Bowel cancer affects younger people as well, those who are health conscious and without history of bowel cancer in their family

3. If you have a feeling something is not quite right, or, you want to be proactive about your health and screen for bowel cancer. Don’t wait, order a test with the simple click of a button.

Visit True Proactive and order your bowel cancer test today.

New figures released yesterday show the impact bowel cancer screening is having across New Zealand.

Since the National Bowel Screening Programme began rolling out in 2017, more than three million screening kits have been distributed and more than 3,300 bowel cancers detected. More than 40% of those cancers were found early from those within the screening age.

The message from us is simple: screening matters.

If you're eligible for the National Bowel Screening Programme, make sure you take part when your kit arrives.

And if you're not currently eligible and want to screen proactively, ordering a FIT test for screening through True Proactive is an option.

We have been working hard to make proactive bowel cancer screening more accessible to New Zealanders who want to take that step sooner. To date we have shipped over 4000 FIT tests to proactive kiwis. You don't have to wait to test for New Zealand biggest cancer killer under the age of 50.

A Tauranga GP got tired of telling patients there was no simple way to screen for bowel cancer before the funded age, so he built one and started packing kits himself.

Bowel cancer is the leading cause of cancer death for New Zealanders under 50. The National Bowel Screening Programme is free from 58, dropping to 56 from 30 September. That leaves a lot of adults who want to screen with no way in.

True Proactive's at-home FIT test can be ordered privately by any adult, with no invitation and no GP referral. Your sample is analysed at an accredited New Zealand medical laboratory and your result is reviewed by a medical provider.
If it is positive, one of our in-house clinicians will contact you to discuss what's next. You won't be left to figure out what to do.

If you have symptoms, please see your GP.

That’s how quickly bowel cancer rates increased among adults aged 20 - 49 in the US between 2013 and 2022, according to research highlighted in an article published on 20 September 2026.

Researchers still don’t know exactly what is driving the increase, but the changing age profile of bowel cancer is continuing to raise important questions around awareness and early detection.

While these figures are from the US, the conversation around bowel cancer in younger people is one we need to keep having.

Know the signs, know your options, and don’t assume you’re too young.

If you’re eligible for the National Bowel Screening Programme, make sure you take part. If you’re not eligible and want to screen proactively, you can learn more about private FIT screening through True Proactive via the link in the comments.

True Proactive was born from seeing too many serious health conditions diagnosed late because opportunities for early screening were being missed.

By making screening simpler, more accessible and more acceptable, we can help more people take a proactive approach to their health, especially those who might otherwise put testing off or avoid it altogether.

True Proactive exists to make that first step easier.
