Dizziness that just won’t go away?

I’ve been seeing a lot of this lately. A common story goes like this:
Someone develops intermittent dizziness. It feels unsettling, sometimes quite intense. They do the right thing and visit their GP, and are treated for a possible ear infection.

When that doesn’t help, they’re referred for treatment to reposition inner ear “crystals.” Still no change.
By the time they come into the clinic, they’re often frustrated and starting to worry.

What many people don’t realise is that dizziness doesn’t always come from the inner ear. A very common — and well-documented — cause is something called cervicogenic vertigo, where the issue is actually coming from the neck.

The upper neck plays a key role in balance and spatial awareness. If it’s not moving or functioning well, it can send confusing signals to the brain, leading to that dizzy, off-balance feeling.

This is where osteopathy can help.
Using gentle cranial and functional techniques, I work to restore normal movement and reduce tension through the neck and surrounding structures.

For many patients, after just a few sessions, the dizziness that’s been hanging around for months settles and resolves.

If the onset was caused by an accident such as a fall or head injury, treatment is usually covered by ACC, with a cost of $65 per session. Otherwise, sessions are $99.

If you or someone you know has ongoing dizziness that hasn’t responded to other treatments, it may be worth considering a different approach.
