This Wednesday, **19 August**, we celebrate the anniversary of **same-sex marriage becoming legal in New Zealand** a milestone that recognised the right of all couples to marry the person they love.

Marriage equality represented more than a change in law. It was a step towards greater inclusion, dignity, and equal rights for rainbow communities across Aotearoa.

On Wednesday we celebrate the courage of those who shared their stories, advocated for change, and helped create a more inclusive New Zealand. Their efforts continue to inspire us as we work towards a future where everyone is treated with respect, compassion, and equality.

πŸ³οΈβ€πŸŒˆ What Do the Colours Mean?

The Progress Pride Flag celebrates the diversity of the LGBTQIA+ community and reminds us that everyone belongs.

❀️ Rainbow stripes – Represent the LGBTQIA+ community and the diversity of sexual orientations and gender identities.
🩡 Pink, light blue and white – Represent the transgender community.
🀎 Brown and black – Represent LGBTQIA+ people of colour, honour those we've lost to HIV/AIDS, and acknowledge the ongoing fight against racism and stigma.
πŸ’› Yellow with the purple circle – Represents the intersex community and the right to bodily autonomy.

The Progress Pride Flag is a symbol of inclusion, visibility and equality. It reminds us that every person's journey is unique and that everyone deserves to be respected, valued and supported.

❀️ Every colour has meaning. Every person belongs.
